Anyone have any advise for me (please)

Currently have my Echostar 6000 sat receiver running into my Pioneer HDTV - SD-582HD5 via component cables.
For one reason or another I am getting significant overscan.

I experimented to prove the issue - ran the RGB out of the 6000 to a multisync computer monitor and proved that the 6000 could produce the picture with no overscan/truncating.

So - I though I would try to connect the 6000 to the Pioneer using the RGB input the Pioneer has, to see if it would handle the signal in a different fashion.

Problem - Pioneer will not sync up to the 6000.

Any ideas ?

thanks !

The Pioneer will sync up to the 6000. All Pioneer TVs have TERRIBLE HD overscan and image centering problems. This has been fixed with the new Elite X30 line.

Please remember that all 7" gunned RPTVs are meant to have overscan (or should I say NEED to have). Figure 4-5% on all sides.

My Pioneer Elite 53" picture in HD 1081 model - cuts off a little of the very top and bottom of the picture e.g. on the NBA HD the score board on the top of the screen is cut off by about 10% versus non HD. Do you know if this is correctable or is it the overscan you were noting?
Thank you

Thanks guys - I have realized I'll have to live with the overscan.

In general - I am very pleased with my HDTV experience.

Normally you are not aware of how much it is....but....the sports broadcasts really demonstrate how much overscan you have.

Jerry - the sports graphics is what got me going on the issue - I was getting the scores cut off during the superbowl broadcast. Went in on my 6000 to adjust the HDTV picture. It allows you to move around the centre point. With that I was able to move up the visual part of the picture to better display the graphics at the one edge. But it really makes you realize what you're missing as you push the opposite end of the picture off the display.

I still can't seem to sync my 6000 to the pioneer using RGB input

Can't find the specs on the 6000 - but shouldn't it be 60hz ??

I know the pioneer works at 60 hz as I hooked my computer up & it would drive the pioneer fine at that frequency.

bye for now....

Overscan problems (esp with Pioneer) are usually VERY correctable. Please remember that your set is at the mercy of whatever the broadcaster is setting up the overscan for. If HDNET is mis broadcasting (read: not observing the safe zone), you and your set are out of luck.

Also, If HD NET does broadcast an overscan testing image, it doenst mean that all of its broadcasts are respecting this either.
