View Full Version : 103(c) too low?
Hello, I recently had an installer come out and put a 5 LNB dish on a pole in a bucket. It is braced to the railing of my apartment so I know its not going anywhere. The problem was that when he left I changed the channel and IMMEDIATELY noticed pixelation problems. So I have went out and re-tuned the dish about 3 or 4 times now. I have gotten what I think is a good reading on all but 103(c). Please tell me what you think. I haven't been able to get anyone from around my area to give me their readings so its hard to compare to what I should be getting.

99s, 103s and 103c are all too low. You are quite close though, but 103c definately needs to be into upper 80's lower 90's.

Do you think its a tilt issue because I have a horrible time with the tilt.

I beleive it is tilt, maybe this will help, there probably is better info out there. Many here who are far more knowedgable than I, maybe someone might check in.

Tilt is not an issue, 119 is very close to 101 levels, and tilt does not do much at 103. Work with horiz and vert adjustments, you are very close, you should not have to go more than one turn on the fine adjustment bolts to have it dialed in.

I didn't have the heart:)

Well I did a hybrid approach. Pole in the bucket with monopoles (near the dish) from the pole to the railings of my balcony.

We actually have special balcony railing mounts for 5 lnb dish. I've never used it though.
Pixelation might be due to bad cable or other factors. I hope your cable isnt jammed in the door or window frame.
This morning I woke up and my 110 satellite showed 55 56 53. Everything else looked the same. Do you think maybe its a bad LNB problem instead of an aiming problem? The sky is perfectly clear with no wind. Also I noticed that my tuner 2 levels on 110 and 103(c) are lower by at least 5 to 10 points.
UPDATE: I have called Directv and got a tech coming out on Wednesday. My box locked up shortly after I posted the first part and this is the 4th time it has locked up since I got it installed like a week and a half ago.
Tech came out and after swapping out B-band converters, re-terminating rf connections, he finally replaced the LNB and like magic I got a 95 on tuner 1 and a 94 on tuner 2.

Neat,
Ya know, the last installation company I worked with told me that all components are "factory tested" and loading spares on my truck would just mess up the monthly inventory. After he left I cut four dish cases up and made some spare LNBs & masts. "Inventory"....go figure!
He also tried adding (1) one 50 piece bag of compression fittings a week to each "truck inventory". He went white when I showed him how one might use fifty fittings on one job. Life with the idiots continues.
