I see flat coax (for window and door pass-thru) all over the place online, but we were trying to find one this weekend/today for a more immediate need and we aren't having any luck. Does anyone know where I could find one of these at a local type store? Would I be able to call my installer and just buy one from them? We tried Radio Shack/Best Buy/HD/Lowes etc but no luck.

Your best bet would probably be finding a small mom & pop store electronic store that sells and installs antennas. Try the yellow pages.

Otherwise, if you need it quickly, just pay for overnight delivery from one of online places that has it.

if I am right any 75 ohm flat antenna cable would work right? or is the d* flat a different spec?

Good call Bill, I called a local shop and they had one. $15 though. OUCH! I could order online with next day shipping for less than that I imagine.

David, I don't know if I have seen such a thing? 75 ohm flat? The only flat antenna wire I've seen was 300 ohm?

I had a bunch of it come with my exterior ant. when I bought it years ago, I tossed it since it was relatively brittle.

How many you looking for? Solid Signal has them for 3.99 ea (if I tell you what I get them for you'll cry).

Be sure to buy some spares, too. They tend to be rather fragile and trouble-prone.

Appliedtel also carries them fairly cheap. Remember though that they are not rated for HD. That is why they are getting harder to find.

try camping world or an rv service company - i sell about 20 a month to the local camper world, so others might carry them too.

That's exactly why we were looking for one, for a temporary sat dish install on an RV for my folks. They went and bought the $15 one. If the setup works the way we hope it does then I'll get him to order a few online.

Back when I started with D* I lived in a duplex and couldn't drill holes. I used one of those back then for a good 4 years through our patio door, and it never failed. But I suppose, as the saying goes, they don't make them like they used to.

Just wondering out loud if that flat coax will perform as well as the round stuff...

No...but (at least in the pre-Ka days) I've seen it work well enough for some friends who needed it for apartment installs.

It worked fine for me back with the old 2-LNB dish. My folks are using a Phase III for this application (my old one that got replaced by my AT-9) so it should work fine. They don't have the HD package because of the limitations of the RV dish as it is so they don't need Ka at this time.
