I'm installing my old SD dish. It will be hooked to an old Tivo unit. I'm wondering what splitter I should use for splitting the main coax run into 2 for the duel tuners.

You can't do that. You need to either run two lines or I believe a stacker/destacker system will work with the TiVo.

You have to run 2 lines from dish to reciever.. there are 4 outputs on the dish IIRC

You recall somewhat correct. It depends what dish you have. 3lnb will have 4 outputs. Single lnb will have one or two outputs (single lnb with dual outputs is widely referred to as a dual lnb dish).

In any case, you have to run two lines or use a stacker/destacker as Mike stated.

Although not recomended a power passing splitter will work with basic receivers, but not sure if it will with tivo. are you not able to get a second line at that location?

A power passing splitter will only partially work with any receiver and will be more of a PITA than it is worth. It will work if both receivers (or both tuners on a tivo) are trying to look at the same set of transponders, such as the ones that the receiver sends 13v up the line to see. Try tuning a channel on one receiver that sends 13v to the lnb and tuning the other receiver to a channel that sends 18v and you will get a nice 771 SFSS message. IMHO, this is not something that you would want when you go back and try to watch that can't miss show that you recorded earlier.
