View Full Version : Advice/Help about new slimline dish
A friend of mine gave me a Slimline AU9 dish. It was at his rental house and they left it behind. I'm hoping to get a better signal and better reception in rain/storms.
Before I start to install(rip apart) my setup, I decided to ask if my plan is even possible with the equipment I have.
Current Setup:
R15, D11 ( SD singal from 101 & 72 ). I have S4040 multiswitch that appears to combine the signals into a "usable line".
Now my question(s).
1. Do I need the "72" satellite to receive SD locals (cedar rapids, ia)?
2. Do I need a new multi-switch in order to use the new Slimline in combination with the locals?
Thanks in advance.

I believe you can use your existing multi-switch as you are only tuning 101 with the new dish. The only difference between the old multi-switch and the new WB68 style, is the newer switch can handle the frequencies (KA) from the 99/103 sats. You do not have tuners that can tune those sats.
I'm not sure the slimline dish will accomplish what you want. I'm guessing right now you have a round 18" dish for 101 as well as a round 18" dish for 72.5. Properly aligned, you should not experience rain fade except in the most severe weather.
However, in the fairly near future you can expect your locals to move off of 72.5. When that happens they might move to 119, or they might move to one of the new Ka satellites (which would require you to get a new DVR and a new receiver).
In either case, the Slimline by itself will serve the purpose. If they move to 119 then a Phase III dish will also serve the purpose. You will not need the multiswitch as both of those dishes have four outputs, sufficient for your tuner requirements.
I also agree with davring in that your current multiswitch will work to combine the 72.5 with the Slimline if you only need 101 from the Slimline.
