View Full Version : Using diplexors to mirror TV

I ran into an installation where diplexors were used to mirror a TV. I hadn't seen this setup before. The satellite feed came in thru the outside wall, and INTO a nearby wall cable outlet which I guess went up and was connected at the junction in the attic to the cable going into the desired bedroom. In the bedroom, out of the wall outlet there was a diplexor inline before the box input. The box output to TV was split, one to TV, the other to the same diplexor back to the wall outlet. This was mirrored to a kitchen TV. I didn't go into the attic.
Can someone explain this to me or diagram how it works?

It works pretty much the way you described it. It's just like diplexing OTA, except it's using the RF output of the sat box as the "OTA source".
The part of that idea that gets confusing is that the signals aren't going in the same direction. It sounds like the receiver output is being diplexed in at the end of the line, and going backwards (relative to the direction of the sat signal) through the cable to the other tv, where it is diplexed out.
I have diplexed signal in this way before. It works well.

if the frequency [band] isn't being used by something else, it doesn't matter which way the signal is going.

Based on what I described without being in the attic, can you tell me how it would/could be wired in the attic to work that way?

Somewhere (attic presumably), the line that feeds the other tv is diplexed off of the same cable (or a cable connected to) that the signal is being diplexed into, behind the receiver.
sounds like a E*setup to me

Here's you a rough diagram of how to wire it up. Keep in mind that you can't do this on a HD receiver unless you move the BBC.
EDIT: You have to click to zoom in on the picture in order to see it correctly.

Yeah, 20 years ago when I installed a BUD here I set things up that way.
