Whenever I have a timer set to record the Braves baseball game on SportSouth-Hd, channel 437, the only recording I get is the "CHECK BACK OFTEN TO SEE IF YOUR FAVORITE TEAM IS PLAYING IN HD". If I swap tuners and manually tune to SportSouth-HD, I see the baseball game. Tuner 1 has baseball, tuner 2 has "check back...." screen. Both tuners are tuned to the same channel, yet they display different programming. This makes absolutely no sense to me. How can each tuner be on the exact same channel and display different programming?
Have any of you Braves fans experienced this?
BTW, this happened again today, Monday the 26th.
this always happens,
Sports South HD almost never brodcasts live games, they're mostly repeats

 Except for the 83 times they broadcast the Atlanta Braves; 35 of which are in HD.
You might want to re-read the post.

That’s a new one… Leaves me to wonder if it’s some kind of content protection or viewership limiter they’ve worked out for certain sports events, etc… Do you happen to have more than one DVR and if so, is it getting the same results? Are you running in dual or single mode (not that is should matter…)? Lastly, as a test, have you tried changing the timer to use tuner 1 to see if it successfully records a game?

I haven't seen that particular problem, but I admit I don't record the Braves games. I will try next time a Braves game is on HD whether I can get it on both tuners.
With the new FSN studio going live next year, I wonder the FSN/Sportsouth HD channels will go fulltime or not.

I'm in single mode.
I did a test yesterday.
I set up tuner 1 to record SportSouth-HD. I edited the timer to alter the start time. The original timer was set to begin recording at 12:30pm. I reset it to 1:00pm.
I set up tuner 2 to record SportSouth-HD. I did not edit the timer and it wasn't a manual timer. The Daily Schedule showed the same description for both timers.
At a little after 1:00pm I checked the tuners.
The programming on tuner 1 was the baseball game.
The programming on tuner 2 was the "CHECK BACK...." crap.
It appears that if the baseball game isn't physically showing on the channel when the recording starts, the "check back..." screen never goes away.
If I stop the recording and manually tune to another channel then back again, guess what? The baseball game is there.
This is all too freakin' weird.
I may try to contact Dish to see if they can offer anything in the way of an explanation. Or, I may just stick a sharp stick in my eye. Not sure which would be more painful.

The next game on SportSouth-HD is June 2nd at 7:00pm. I would be interested to see what your results are.

An idea:
1 - Alter the HD-feed timer to 7:01 PM EDT next Tuesday. You won't miss anything worthwhile.
The REPLAY of the game at 7:00 PM last night had the "CHECK BACK ..." display on the HD-feed and only the SD-feed active. Both feeds WERE active for the afternoon (LIVE) showing.
I would still call the Dish technical folks and describe the situation. Keep us updated. What you're describing doesn't make much sense.

I will try to remember to this. Also, has this happened with FSN South as well?

Hypothesis…
I honestly don’t know but perhaps someone who does can chime in on this – Are the stationary marquees generated using a regular mpeg stream (as is used for full motion video), or are they generated by sending some sort of still image mode mpeg subset containing just enough data to build/render a frame buffer that’s in turn held in the display buffer until a full motion data stream is again detected. I can see where such a mechanism would be favored for its overall bandwidth saving characteristics.
Speculation...
Perhaps there is an overlooked issue with some aspect of the DVR's record/capture facility when combined with such an economizing attribute and that in turn is keeping it from reinitiating the motion stream rendering.
I’m suggesting this only because you mentioned that changing away from, then back to the channel, seems to correct the problem.

The stick in the eye would probably be easier to take...

I think it happens on both FSN South and SportSouth.

That's an interesting theory. The EPG lists the baseball game starting at 6:30 but the SportSouth web site shows 7:00. If Dish is picking up the feed at 6:30 and the transmission doesn't actually start until 7:00, that could be the problem.
Of course, I only understood a portion of your theory. :)

AVJohnnie may very well be on to the "root cause" of the issue.

Yeah, that sounds like he's nailed it. I have two timers set for SportSouth-HD. One will fire at 6:30 and the other at 7:00.

Join the crowd! I get the same thing on Comcast Sports Bay Area. I havn't seen any programming when I watch TV. However I get Sacramento Comcast Sports and I get content on that station. I'm not big on sports, but I watched Giants games sometimes.

Just to clarify, here is how SportsSouth (and FSN South as well) show Braves games in the guide.
SportsSouth (non-HD) 6:30-7:00: Pregame show, 7:00-9:00 Braves game, 9:00-9:30 postgame show
SportSouth (HD) 6:30-9:30: Braves baseball (or something like that)
So if you record the HD channel using the program guide, you will get the pregame show, the game, and the postgame show.
I ran the test last night, and I my recording on the HD channel worked great. I switched to the HD channel in the middle of the pregame show, and it was displaying correctly. I went through the recording this morning, and it played great (and was a very exciting 8th through 10th innnings).
