Our local NBC affiliate, KSL, in Salt Lake City, has started a nasty habit. Last week, both "ER" and "Boomtown" were shown in full screen, though they were filmed in wide screen format. Holy crap it looked awful. They just squished the sides in and the charachters were all skinny and narrow. Absolutely unwatchable. I ended up not watching and caught "Boomtown" on Bravo, and just missed "ER." Oh well, with 130 stations to choose from, I found something else to watch.

Are anyone else's local stations doing this?

Interesting. If you have a widscreen TV with anamorphic mode, that would be a good thing since you can set the TV to restore the picture to all of it's widescreen glory. I would guess KSL is showing it that way by mistake though.

I wish my locals would do this. I have a Sony WEGA with 16x9 mode and regular TV would look great with anamorphic enhancement.

Sunday Ticket had a couple games that started off this way last fall. One took about 10 -15 minutes to get switched back to full screen, while the other took just a couple minutes.

I guess some techs somewhere were watching pregame in wide screen or something.
