I currently have a 3-LNB DirecTV dish. When a 5-LNB dish is installed so support an HR20/21 will more cables have to come down to the box?
I've read somewhere that 4 were needed, but I've looked at the HR20 unsers manual and see only 2 coax connectors.
Note that I have only one TV in the house, and not plans for more.
TIA

Welcome to DBSTalk
How many receivers do you have and what are they?
Do you have a multi-switch?
You only need 4 lines from the dish if you have a multi-switch because you need more than 4 SAT lines.
If you need 4 or less than you only need to have as many lines coming from the dish that you need. So if you only have an HD DVR than you only need 2 lines.
if you only have 1 hr21/21 you only need 2 cables. although it would be nice if the installer went ahead and ran all 4 down for future expansion

Thanks, Michael. I can't imagine why I'd need even 4 SAT lines. There's only 2 of us kicking around here these days.

you'd be surprised how it adds up after awhile.

Thanks, Dave. I plan to have only one TV and one DVR, so I'll probably stay with just 2 cables.
When I had the satellite system installed 5 years ago I went with the 3-LNB for future upgrade to HD. Well, now it's time to go HD and it turns out I wasted my money because the 3-LNB is no longer good enough. Leads me to believe that planning ahead no longer pays off.
But thanks for the help.

When it comes to technology, planning out beyond roughly 3 years may very well not pay off, as technology is evolving so rapidly.
