OK, I have had it with Brighthouse and my wife has said go ahead and Get Direct TV. Here is my setup

(2) HD DVR's
(2) Reg Receivers

My Town house is Pre-Wired for Sat, but only 1 wire to each room so I will need the SWM. I have 4 cables run to the south wall for the Dish.

I want OTA recording so I need HR20 or Hr21 and AM21.

Direct tv will not provide the SWM since I do not live in one of the BETA TEST cities and no idea when they may be available (I live in St Petersburg FL). I was told June, but not sure as I believe I may have been told that to blow me off the phone call.

The SWM module will cost me $300 and I believe I will need diplexers for the OTA.

My Questions

1) How best to Order so that I get the correct Dish and diplexers.
2) Should I order the AM21 upfront? Since I may not get the HR20
3) What Discounts or referrals can I take advantage of
4) Will the installer Freak out and refuse to install when I provide him/her the SWM (Install is MasTec)
5) Will MasTec provide OTA antenna if not do I need to get one before the Install to Verify the HR20 or AM21?
6) Best Place to order SWM (From Member DAVE or Sat supply company)

Thanks for any help Hope to return favor in future

Bill

1) I don't believe DirecTV will provide you with anything to diplex as it's not "officially" supported.
2) I would tell them you want OTA capability at which point they may offer you a free AM21.
3) AAA discount I believe is the best deal going - search on here for it.
4) I would hope not.
5) No, you need to provide an antenna. You don't have to have it ready, you can get it after if you want.
6) Dave29 is cheapest, I believe. PM him for a price.

Well I can help you with a few of these.

My first question is why you would want the OTA? D* carries the locals in HD where you live.

Right now the best deal is for you to go into Best Buy. They have $30 off per month for either 3, 6, or 12 months in ADDITION to the national offer of $18/month. 3 months is for just signing up for D* in-store, 6 months is for buying an HDTV up to $999 with a new D* sign up in-store, 12 months is for buying an HDTV over $999 with a new D* sign up in-store.

Hope this helps.

I'll pretty much second the above comments. In addition.

Depending on how "into" the stuff the tech is, he may or may not touch a SWM. It will really depend on the tech and how techy he is.

Thanks for the Quick replies,...

I want the OTA because I live in Florida and we have lots of Storms. If Sat goes out, I want to still be able to setup and record Network Shows (ER, House Boston Legal etc).

Had not looked into best buy. Will check that out. Can I called about the AAA and the CSR had no info on any AAA promotion or discount.

...My first question is why you would want the OTA? D* carries the locals in HD where you live. A lot of people want to be able to record OTA. Even if D* offered HD LIL in my area, I get 19 digital channels OTA. D* would only have 4 plus (eventually maybe) PBS. And the channels they are forced to offer me aren't even in my home state. OTA provides me more choices.

OTA is more reliable than D* and is great insurance when you want to record a show when heavy rain is predicted. You should understand this living in Fla.

Thanks for the quick respond...

I Just PM'd DAVE29 for a Price quote on SWM and switches for SWM. I have studied the Diplexer for OTA and I guess I can get them on my own along with a good HD OTA Antenna. Will have to research more on the AAA discount as the CSR I talked to had no clue???

Again, thanks for the info.

I think to get the AAA discount, you place your order through AAA, not DirecTv. If not mistaken, all that info is in the Save $240 thread.

You'll only need a diplexor to un-diplex the OTA at the STB. I am even told a 2 port splitter with power pass on 1 port works well to un-diplex the signal.

Besides giving you a good price on the SWM8, Dave29 can provide you with good quality splitters and diplexors. He can advise you on your installation as well.

Home ZIP 33716

My mount for the Dish as well as OTA Antenna is facing south.

I use CM4002IFD as a combining diplexer and CM4001IFD as splitting diplxer. These are excellent diplexers (Solid Signal has them). If you use the OTA input on the SWM-8 you will not need a combining diplexer.

If you need splitters, check with dave29 also. I got my SWM-8 and my STS-4 splitters from him.

Just placed my Ordered and I did get the AAA discount and the $23.00 discount as well as $100.00 off my 2nd HD DVR. AAA saved me $240.00 + $100.00 . Also Ordered the SWM and 1x4 and diplexors from DAVE29

Thanks all for the help. Saved a bunch of money (Also spent a bunch a money)

You could also save $300 or more by switching your car insurance to... oh wait, wrong forum, sorry. :D
