I just received a service update for my HR10-250 to 6.4f. This release includes two new features that are pretty nice.

The first one is overlap protection, which has already been seen on other TiVos. It allows partial (clipped) recording of a lower priority program when a higher priority program overlaps.

The second one is really neat! It's a Deleted Items folder. All programs deleted go into the Deleted Items folder and can be recovered from this folder if necessary.

When will the HR2xs get these features?

Both of these features are highly requested on the HR20/21 Wish List ....

When, or if, we'll ever see them on the DirecTV DVRs is anybody's guess.

Well, now that they're on the TiVo, hopefully soon!

Add me to the list of customers greatly anticipating both of those features on my HR2X DVRs.

I believe it has to be less than 5 minutes. Like shows that are 1:02.

The main thing it does is eliminate conflicts due to padding.

What I'm hoping the Overlap Protection does is to alleviate the following scenario:

- Two programs are scheduled to start recording at 9:00 PM, one on channel A, the other on Channel B.

- The program on channel A is scheduled to stop recording at 10:00 PM, the program on channel B is scheduled to stop recording at 10:01 PM.

- Two programs are scheduled to start recording at 10:00 PM, one on channel C and the other on Channel D.

- The 9:00 PM program on Channel A stops recording at 10:00 PM and then the 10:00 PM program on Channel C starts recording.

- The 9:00 PM program on Channel B stops recording at 10:01 PM, but the 10:00 PM program on Channel D can't start recording at 10:00 PM because the 9:00 PM program on Channel B is still recording and the other tuner is already recording the 10:00 PM program on Channel C.

Because of this one minute overlap, the 10:00 PM program on channel D doesn't get recorded at all. This happens all the time as networks intentionally run their programs into the next hour to help their Nielsen ratings. With Overlap Protection, hopefully the 10:00 PM program on channel D will start recording at 10:01 PM, "clipping" the one minute that was overlapped but recording the rest of the program.

This is definitely a feature that I'd like to see migrate to the HR2xs.

Sure I'd love those features and have voted for them myself on the wish list.

I like those features...

I wondered how long it would take for someone to post this and wonder why the HR didn't have these features yet....
