It is interesting reading... essentially the FCC wants to auction off the 2 unassigned on 61.5 for a minimum of $800k each. If you want a far west one (really only good for West Coast, AK, HI) you can get it for a bargain 100k each. The far west sat slots are empty for a reason. I bet they stay mostly empty after the auction. Only things I can see going out there is a western Angel or R/L DBS.

The real money battle will be between R/L DBS and Echostar on 61.5. Now if E* is planning to buy R/L DBS then maybe they will let R/L have it cheap so they will not have to pay extra for them later.

It would be nice if someone bought a western slot for DBS service to the territories. The territories combined with HI/AK service yields 825,863 TV households. Add in adjoinig island countries and there is a potential Million TV households.

R/L DBS will probably get the two unassigned at 61.5 I doubt Dominion will bid on a western slot as they don't have the money.

HI/AK should be able to see 119 Dish Network fairly well. For HI it should actually have a better elevation than for half the CONUS.

101 DirecTV is at a disadvantage for that but should be mostly visible, and R/L DBS at 61.5 would be below the horizon.

If E* has no plans on buying R/L DBS they could really cripple them by out bidding them on the unassigned, it would be 18% more capacity to R/L DBS.
