I'm a new DTV user, having switched recently after being a longtime Dish customer. Hope my question doesn't reveal my ignorance of my new equipment, but here goes: The HR 21 HD DVR remote doesn't seem to have a button that allows me to quickly return to "live" TV mode after I've reversed a live program to catch a scene or audio that I missed. The only way that I can go back to "live" is to hit the fast forward or advance buttons until the images catches up to the live programming.
Am I missing something? Dish had a button called "Live Mode" and it would take you back to live programming with one touch.

Welcome to DBSTalk
The 30 second slip/skip button you need to press and hold it for 3 seconds and it will jump to the end.
BTW that is how the skip to ticks work (holding down FW or RW) when watching recorded programs and jump to end or beginning by holding (30sec slip/skip button or reply button).

Thanks, Michael. I guess my ignorance was showing, just as I feared.

Not at all. We all have questions some times.
BTW I edit my other post.

if you're using a harmony remote its a little different, hold it a few seconds then quickly double tap it again to accomplish this.

Or... In my case... As I have documented before... It's 'press, hold, hold, hold, press, press, press, press, hold, press, press'... and I might get it to do it... :D

on mine though if my show is 2 hours and has 8 ticks i keep holding the ff button down but it only ff to the 1st tick not to the end of the show....if i want to get to the end of the show i have to do this like 7 more times (1 for each tick left) to get to the end of the show....is that right ?
Holding the ff button skips to the next tick mark. Holding the 30-second advance button skips to the end.

FW only jumps to the tick marks like you said but if you press and hold the 30sec slip/skip button like I said above it will jump to the end.

I didn't know that. That helps me a lot now. Thanks.

By experimentation I have determined that the fastest way to return to live TV from a pause or from buffered content is to merely hit "channel up" followed by a "channel down". I often do this to jump to live viewing of a previously paused sporting event. Any other key combination is a pain.

Thats what I do to . Come on Directv do something about the stupid press and hold that is to me a even bigger dumb dumb move than not having DLB . I can never get slo mo to work right by the time I get the right scene I don't care anymore and the skipping to tick or end sucks to . I know this has been discussed before also , but has anybody ever got a hold of the data for the Harmony remotes so we don't have to do press and hold ?

To quote my friend Steve, "Hey hey, ho ho, Press-and-hold has got to go."
