Another Porno Fiasco at Dish!

Would you believe this, I used to think people where crazy when they came to me with some weird billing statement showing several hundred dollers worth of porn. I always thought there was some reasonable explanation.

It just happened to my next door neighbor this evening!

Heres the kicker he subscribes to Ten and Extasy and they are claiming that he ordered it as a PPV and I know for a fact none of the recievers are connected to the phone line since I did the installation personally and he only has 1 phone jack in the entire house!

Im on the phone starightening it around right now with Dish, as I type this the CSR is trying to tell me that the PPV was uploaded to Dish Via the satellite without the phone line connected like it had a Starband transmitter :(

Sounds like a computer snafu.

I have not had any more bogus PPV charges since Dish set my PPV Limit to $0. The problem now is if I want to order something I must call them and pay in advance for the show and haggle them out of the $5 Human assistance ordering fee.

Claude did I read your post on DBSForums.com about this correctly....This guy is 80 years old?!!!!! and is hiding the channels on the EPG from his wife?!! If so thats kinda hillarious...:rolling:..I dont mean the billing error but just the general idea..:D

Yea, 80 years old and has the porn blocked out from his wife :)

His wife caught him one time because he fell asleep and forgot to change the channel. He ended up convincing her it was a FREE preview :)

I had a CSR tell me once that they send down a signal to retrieve the PPV channels to send to them or something like this without a phone line connection that they eventually get the information on what was bought but I dont see how this could be done and doubt this because I have seen some customers with receivers with old charges on them that did not want a phone connected where someone had ordered a ppv on them.

:lol: They have to have a phone line connected to the IRD so it can call home and report the PPV info. There is no other way for E* or D* to get the information, unless you do it online or call it in and talk to a CSR. The satellite signal only works one way as for as I know.

It HAS to only work one-way. Two-way satellite requires a professional installation due to FCC regulations on two-way. Therefore, you can absolutely KNOW that Dish can't send that data back up -- since, if it happened, they would be violating FCC regulations thousands and thousands of times... heh.

It doesn't happen -- period. Your phone line is your only "uplink" to Dish.

When I worked for Pegasus Satellite Communications we had the ability to request an individual DirecTV receiver to call in and upload PPV's with a few quick keystrokes if a customer called in and wanted to clear his or her card. Pretty similar to sending a rehit to the card if the customers programming wasn't all coming in properly. I would venture to guess that was what was referred to above. If a phone line isn't plugged in it's obviously not going to be able to dial out properly, but you could sit there all day long and put in request after request for a receiver to call out if a customer was having issues doing it.
