The recorder, which Sony plans to sell for a retail list price of about US$3,800, will include a digital satellite tuner that will enable users to record up to two hours of high definition programming on a 12 cm Blu-Ray disc

I think it willl take about 2 years for the price of the disks to drop from 30 to 5 dollars.

To the Japanese, politics and in fights sometimes miss the obvious solution. Red laser uses same recorders and players as we currently use for DVD, by adding a chip set that can improve algorithms and uses same disks for recording and is totally backward compatible. Cost savings of disk manufacturing plant alone is pegged at over 1 billion dollars. The problem is that red laser HD wasn't worked out by the Japanese, first.
