View Full Version : Locals in HD Timeline?
Is there a "link" somewhere that tells when DirecTv will have my Locals in HD? I have a "link" from DirecTv that lets me put in my Zip Code and it tells me HD Locals Not Available yet but I am looking for possible date when I can get them.
Thanks

At this point I don't believe DIRECTV has released any future dates yet of dates local markets will start receiving their HD channels.
Hopefully I am wrong and someone will have a answer for you but I don't think so.

The only thing I know is the list of Local Receive Facilities on Direct'v web site. It shows the SD and HD LRF's that they now have, and will have in the near future.

Thanks for the replies guys. I get my locals from Lexington,Ky. hopefully I'll get HD Locals this fall. Louisville just got their HDs in March so maybe mine coming soon.
When D11 goes live (August?), hopefully we'll see many new markets open up for HD locals as well as many more current HD markets getting their PBS and CW affiliates in HD.

RonH,
I assume you've seen this page (http://hr20.dbstalk.com/html/DTV_LIL_DMA.html), right. You are in DMA 64 which is one of the larger markets without HD LILs.
It looks like D* generally provides HD to the larger DMAs first - and there aren't a lot of larger DMAs without HD ahead of you.
My DMA, on the other hand, is 132 (darn). :(

Don't know how much faith I'd put on that list since it doesn't show HD receive facilities for Austin TX but we've had HD locals for almost 2 years now.

Yes, I was just comparing the list of LRFs with the list of DMAs likely to get their HDs soon. The LRF list is either out of date - or is may be that setting up an HD LRF can be done quickly.

No I hadn't seen that list, thanks for Link. It makes me feel like I will get HD Locals this Fall after seeing where Lexington is on that list.

What's my prize? At number 42, our area (Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, VA) is currently the largest market WITHOUT HD locals.

Looking at that list and seeing all the DMAs lit below yours, I would tend to think there are other issues at work here, like LIN, or some other reason they are not yet up....contract issues, etc..

My DMA is 127. I have a feeling I won't be getting locals in HD any time soon :(

Is it me, or does this one DMA seem out of place getting their HD?
199. Mankato, MN

Ya think? Bugs the heck out of me. Don't care that they only have one channel or whatever, it still stinks. I'm in #93 but thankfully have brilliant OTA so could care less when D* finally gets around to adding us. With Mankato, it's just the principle of the thing.

There are a lot of reasons why one market would get locals ahead of another. Size is only one. It may be a desirable market for DIRECTV with weak cable penetration or a high percentage of sports fans.
I would guess another consideration has to do with available bandwidth within a certain spot beam(s) as well? If several DMAs are close together yet on different responders and spot beams, couldn't this be a limiting or delaying factor as well regarding rollout of HD locals to a smaller market?

Here in the Burlington VT Market,
Dish just got HD Locals.
I wonder if that would have any effect on Direct TV getting them soon, like maby pushing them to light them up here.
I know the competition between the two is pretty good here.
