I have a SD definition receiver in my master bedroom and I want to put a modulator or whatever is needed to share that signal with a tv in the kitchen and also one in a bedroom in the basement. What would be the best method to do this ?

Thanks

Welcome to DBSTalk

All you need to do is split the line coming out of the receiver to the TV with a splitter and connect a line to all 3 TV's.

You will have to watch the same program on all 3 units.

heh heh-saw the subject line and immediately thought an axe would work but it chops the warranty to heck :)
why does my mind go there....

Depending on how far away the remote TVs are, this might not work too well. The modulated signal coming out of the Receiver is not really designed to be split and distributed to remote TVs. A good quality RF Modulator would work better.

On the Primary TV, use the coax out.
Then use the Composite (A-V, or commonly called RCA) cables to the RF Modulator.

Split the signal out of the RF modulators' Coax to the 2 Coax lines going to the remote TVs?!?

I use the RF modulator from Radio Shack below to send the signal from my H20 in the master bedroom to a small TV in the master bath via coax cable. Just as others described I use the Composite (A/V , RCA) outs on the H20 to the RF box and then have a run of coax from there to the other TV. Whatever we have on in the bedroom also plays in the bath. I also have the H20 using a RF remote so we can change channel from within the bath.

I would like to complete this project without running new wires. I do have access in the basement to the original wires that were ran to the rooms when the house was built. I was wondering if the MM70 Micro Modulator would allow me to broadcast the signal to the other tv's in the house or would there be a another product to use?

what are the distances? think that will efffect which way works best right?

One tv is directly below the receiver room in a basment bedroom and the other tv is seperated by a single wall in the kitchen. So the distance isn't more than 10 -12ft from the receiver on either of the extra tv's

Any Ideas ?

You can do what you are proposing. It would be very easy to do using diplexors if one knows what they are doing. It would be rather difficult to explain to the layman though.

Over the weekend I was able to dig into the cables that I have currently run. I will try to explain it the best I can. I currently have a cable from the dish itself that runs into a storage room (all the other cables are here aswell) and it is connected to a cable that runs into to the master bedroom and hooked up to an SD receiver. What I want to do it is share that receiver's with two other rooms. I looked and I have access to the ends of the cables that run to each room that I want to share the receiver with. The cables are all located in an outlet box located in a storage room. I don't have the ability to run more cables. What options or ideas do you guys have ?

Thanks

Using an RF Modulator connected to the Master Bedroom Receiver's AV outputs, you'll need another RF coax cable from the Master Bedroom back to the central wiring closet. There you can install a coax splitter to feed the RF Modulator's signal to the TVs in the other two rooms.

If you are unable to run an additional cable from the master bedroom to the distribution point, you can use diplexors to backfeed the modulated signal on the satellite feed to that SD receiver. You will need two diplexors, one at the receiver and the other in the distribution room.

Or, for the more graphically inclined:

Dish
| Diplexer 2
| |--------[MB output]
Diplexer 1 []===========[]--------[MB input]
|
|
Splitter []----------[Second Bedroom]
|
|
[kitchen]

Basically, each diplexer should have three ports - usually labelled Satellite, Antenna, and In/Out.

Coax from dish to Satellite port on diplexer 1, coax from In/Out on diplexer 1 to In/Out on Diplexer 2. Coax from Satellite connection on Diplexer 2 to Satellite in on MB receiver. Output coax from MB receiver (or from the modulator if you choose to go that route) to the Ant port on Diplexer 2. Then coax from antenna port on diplexer 1 to a splitter, which then has coax running from it's two outputs to the other two rooms. Ta-Da!

I never heard of that before. The only time you need an RF modulator is when a receiver doesnt have coax output which would be HD or HD DVR. Otherwise splitter should work just fine. Especially on 15 inch kitchen TV
