So in the Prioritizer if a program does not have any scheduled recordings, how do you know what channel it applies to? The screen clearly says; “All episodes on this channel are scheduled to record. You may change the options below” but nowhere on the screen, nor any where else, can I find does it show what channel it was created for. This is especially important for shows that appear on two different channels which necessitates two listings in the Prioritizer (using up more of the limited 50 slots :nono2: ) like Law & Order Criminal Intent on NBC and USA. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Dan.

There is no way right now. We have asked this be changed, and hopefully at some point it will be. You never used to be able to even change the settings on shows with no upcoming episodes, and they changed that.

It has been an on going issue. It's great that we have access even if there are no current showing. However, a little more needs to be done.

IMHO, with so many shows running split seasons/summer seasons, it would be helpful to see all the settings including the channel.

If I have it set to record only first run, and it's not currently in first run, then the last known day/time should be included.

The national channels (USA, SciFi, etc) run varying seasons times and lengths.

I bet most people don't have 50 SL's running concurrently but it's easy to get in the high 40's or to 50 with all the different times during the year shows are on.

With the limit it makes it even more important that there is more info in the Prioritizer.

At the very minimum it should be the channel I setup the SL on; the day/time; any padding...the basic SL settings

Just my 2˘.

The only reason I'm under the 50 limit is due to the fact that I still have my HR10-250 and my SAT-T60 in the same room as my HR21-700... As MicroBeta points out as the Networks slowly devolve (as NBC recently announced they are going to a "season-less" approach) the 50 limit becomes more and more painful.

I find the 50 limit to be a problem. With all of the major networks running summer shows, fall shows, and January/winter shows 50 isn't a very big number. Then you have to count in things like Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, SciFi shows, as well as FX and USA original programming. Next you have sports such as NASCAR broadcast on several different networks. Finally add in what I call "filler shows" such as repeats of old shows that I and my wife record and a running list of 50+ isn't hard to do.

On my old Tivo we often ran a Season Pass list in the 70's. Right now I'm much more selective about what I will set up a link for and what I will manually schedule. I find myself monitoring the guide updates to manually record stuff like Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers instead of using a series link spot. I also have to temporarily remove Series Links of shows that aren't on right now such as 24 and add them back of when they return.

Keep in mind this is all MUCH more convenient than a VCR ever was but 50 does seem to be a very arbitrary number for D* to pick.

So for now I do what I do. It doesn't really bother me that much and I wait to see what will happen first:
Elimination of the 50 series link limit
or
My DMA Wheeling, WV/Steubenville, OH #159 getting ANY locals on D*

I have to agree. The various programming "seasons" have made it almost impossible to stay within 50 series links. Plus, any autorecords also eat up series link space. I hate having to delete "Fall" season series links to make room for the "Summer" season series links; then have to remember to recreate the Fall season series links.

It's a good question. My workaround is to do a search for the program and then it shows me what channels it is on.

But that only works if the show is still in reruns. If the show on hiatus, then I guess we're out of luck.

I don't like the idea of limitations, in general, but 50 seems reasonable unless you are trying to use one "personal" video recorder to record everything for a family of five. What one person has time for 50 programs a week anyway (or HDD room, for that matter)? You also reach a point of diminishing returns when schedule conficts start to increase exponentially. At that point, you are trying to use the device to do more than it was probably designed to do, and should probably consider getting a second one to handle the increased load. Bingo! Magically, the limitation is now 100!

That said, they would be doing themselves a favor by raising that limit, not because we really need it, but simply because it paints the box as being "limited" (which of course it is) and thus inferior to Tivo and other platforms without such limits.

If they arbitrarily raised the limit to 60, e.g., they may find the 20% that need more than 50 might now be reduced to a mere 5% that want more than 60.

I have no idea if my #'s are remotely close to reality, but you know what I mean. :) /steve
