I have an ACTIONTEC/Qwest DSL modem, speed 1.5mbs, that I want to connect wirelessly to my Toshiba 50HP95 Plasma HDTV. The HDTV is about 20 ft from my computer & modem in a "computer room". I am totally new to this kind of setup. What exactly do I need to do this? Router? What kind? Anything else?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.....

I assume you are trying to connect an HR20/21 to the internet?

If you so you need to a wireless router and wireless adapter with an ethernet connection not USB.

Then you would power down your PC and unplug the modem. Connect the ethernet cable that is going from the modem to the PC into the router from the modem. Then run a line from the router to the PC. Plug the modem back in and let it start up. Once it starts all the way up plug the router in. Once that starts up turn the PC back on.

Then you need to log into the router and configure it for wireless. Then you need to connect the wireless adapter to either that PC or if you have another PC ethernet connection. If you do it on that unit just disconnect the ethernet cable going to it from the router. Run the setup disk for the wireless adapter to configure it to work with your network.

Then unplug it from the PC and connect it to the HR20/21 and run the network setup in the menu. It should say connected to internet and network.

EDIT: I just saw your other post about you having an HR20.

I don't have a wireless setup, but did look into this last week [call me a newbie for this too].
I do have a wired network working with my DVRs, so modem -> router-> PCs, DVRs.
For wireless: the router needs to be a wireless and the DVR needs a wireless "game adapter" as these seem to be the only thing that is wireless and connects to the network jack, on the back of the DVR.

Lots of good info here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=99327.

Here is a very simple drawing of a wired/wireless setup. The router is a wireless router and the device plugged into the HR2x is a ethernet bridge, commonly known as a gaming adapter. Some people have had issues getting the gaming adapter to work in thier environment and some plugged it in and it came right up.
