View Full Version : Two features requested

I have two feature requests. I at least one of them is extemely simple.
A> You should be able to hit the PLAY button from the episode's "information screen". You can hit PLAY if you are scrolling through a list of recorded programs, but if you hit SELECT to view it's details, you can't play it using the PLAY button. You have to use the SELECT button (you know, when it has "PLAY", "RESUME", etc on the left).
B> There should be a way to skip faster than 4xFF. My SA TWC box had the ability that if you were fast forwarding, and hit the "-->" key, it would jump instantly ahead by 15 mins. You could also do the same while you were rewinding by pressing "<--" key. This may seem like a nitpick, but's it really helpful to get to the last 10 or 15 minutes of a program that you missed, because you fell asleep.
Anyone else have any input on these?

These aren't bad ideas... I'd contact Steve as he has an entire wishlist setup.

B already exists. Kind of. Skip to tick (which I believe are in 15 minute increments) is used by pressing and holding FF. People have differing levels of success with this "feature" and would like it to be fixed, myself included. In Tivo it used to be that if you were fast forwarding and then pressed the 30skip button you would skip to the next tick mark, which worked great for me. I wish they would program it that way.

On my HR20, this feature already exists.
Hold down the rewind or the forward button to skip to the next or previous tick line on the time bar.
The ticks seem to usually be 15 minutes apart.

I say this because the HR20/HR21 platform is already more full-featured than either their DISH or TiVo counterpart DVRs, but the HR2x Wish List already has more requests on it than both the DISH and TiVO wish lists combined! :)
My personal opinion is sinde "PLAY" is already hilighted in the left menu when viewing the program details, and my finger is already on SELECT from having just selected the show's INFO, why would I want to move my finger off SELECT to find the PLAY button? I do understand the logic of your request, however. Intuitively, you would expect PLAY to play the show.
Regarding "B", as noted by others, this capability already exists with the existing 15 minute forward or reverse SKIP-TO-TICK functionality. That said, the PRESS/HOLD method of invoking SKIP-TO-TICK leaves a lot to be desired, so we have these 3 related requests on the current Wish List:
During FF or RW, LEFT/RIGHT arrows should SKIP-TO-TICKS, and UP/DOWN arrows should SKIP TO START/END.
OPTION to jump ahead or back in a recording by pressing "3-FF", e.g., to jump ahead 3 minutes, or "1-5-RW" to jump back 15 minutes.
Up to FFX3, automatically switch to PLAY at the end of a commercial block. If you haven't already let DirecTV know how you value these requests, please do so here (http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=survey&survey=28). TIA. :) /steve

Man this would be awesome... :sure:

Regarding "B" I too wish something could be done, I've held down the ff button until my finger was numb and it didn't do anything as far as I could tell. It gets to ff X4 and that's all.
Also I miss an actual "slow motion" option, I have held the play button down until it practically goes thru the back wall of the remote, and when/if slow motion does start it is not in my opinion actual slow motion, and I have not been able to get frame by frame slow motion to work at all. Has frame advance and slow motion both been discontinued? I like slow motion for reading screen credits after movies instead of just pausing and restarting as the credits scroll down and it's nice for football season too.

I want it the Tivo way, too. I can't get the current way to work consistently.

For me A is a no-brainer. YES
As others have stated B is already possible but a pain in the rear the way it was implemented.

I could take or leave "A". Does it work if you press play twice? I'm not at home now but it seems to me that there are certain conditions where you need to press play twice.
Press-and-hold is terrible - Tivo style skip-to-tick would be great!

In info play is used as a trickplay command but in the list it plays what is highlighted is this intentional ?

For me A is a no-brainer. YESI myself never use trickplay in the PIP window, except for PAUSE to prevent spoilers. That said, some may use trickplay for the PIP and could reasonably argue that PLAY should be reserved for it and not the INFO program, which has it's own PLAY control. /steve

I'm one of those people . I think play should always be used for trickplay that way I don't have to worry about what screen I'm on .

Hold the phone, pardner...I wan't them to leave that one just the way it is. Now that I'm weaning away from Tivo, I like the ability to go directly from FF to 30SKIP without having to press pause or play first. This would thwart that ability.
I've actually seen discussion on having the PLAY button start playback from the Info screen - in that same thread it was discussed that RED should also delete from the Info screen as shorcuts.
Don't forget that that there could be either one or two options that will play the recording from the Info screen, depending on whether the program was previously played.
If this is the first time, the only option is Play.
If this is NOT the first time, the two options are Resume and Start Over.
In the 2nd case, should the PLAY button work as Resume when on the Info screen?

 Personally I couldn't care less how they change it, but it needs to be changed from press and hold.
