I know this is an off the wall question - apologies up front.

I may be relocating to the Warwick RI area. Currently living in the Boston Ma area.

Does anyone out there know of Dish Network friendly apartment complexes in this area? I'm a current Dish customer and would like to remain so if I have to move. I guess DirecTV is an option also, but I'd have to buy all new equipment. Is there such a thing as apartment complexes that already have sat. tv for the full complex? I see some listings indicating that they offer 'basic' cable (what ever that is) for free. If I could find a apartment in the general area that is not opposed to my putting a dish on the balcony that would fit the bill too.

many thanks in advance

Well...as both a Dish Customer and an apartment manager, I can tell you that they don't have to be Dish Friendly. Like it or not, you MAY put the Dish on your balcony and they can do little to stop you, as the FCC has ruled on your side on this one. The law specifically permits renters the right to receive satellite tv if they so desire and the landlord can do little to prevent it. Now, they can make a few restrictions that make it tougher to put it in (like..."not on the roof, or not into our siding, etc). My residents have gotten quite crafty and they simply U-Bolt the Dish to the Balcony Railing.
Just make sure when selecting an apartment, you find one with clear line of site from the balcony (or wherever they will let you put it). Ask them up front about any stipulations and if they say NO YOU CAN"T HAVE IT...Avoid them like the plague...but make sure you tell them they are breaking the law because they are.
I have actually "helped" educate some other managers in my area on this issue and a few ended up caving and saying "oh...we didn't know that".
Many Landlords figure if they tell you that you can't you aren't smart enough to know your rights...let them know they are wrong! and Happy Apartment Hunting!!

Thanks Shilton

Yes, I know about shiva and the right to being able to do a dish. That does work in my favor. I'm hoping to find a 'friendly' place when I move. Much easier this way. It also makes sense to steer clear if they say NO right up front. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask a prospective landlord up front, and here in the forums for any good leads in the area.

thanks

it would be interesting to find an apartment complex that wasn't wired into the cable system at all and had one dish antenna on top of each building and each apartment having a total of two or three available jacks.

That way the resident just calls dish network to give them their own recievers.:-)
