Well sort of. I received a letter in the mail today from DTV. Here is what it said:

Dear (yourname here),

I'm writing with some important news about your current DIRECTV service.

On March 18, 2003, we will be implementing new prices for some of our programming packages. Information on this increase will be included on your next bill.

However, because you made a commitment to keep your basic DIRECTV service for a certain period, we will continue to offer you the previously advertised price for your basic programming package.

Beginning with your first bill after March 18, you will see the new price for your basic programming package and, for the rest of your commitment period, a credit each month to offset any increase in your basic package price. This credit will appear on your bill as "Price Protection." You may also see a price increase on one or more of our premium services (such as HBO, STARZ Super Pak, SHOWTIME UNLIMITED, Cinemax or SPORTS Pack) but you will not receive a credit for price increases on those premium services.

We work hard to bring you the best possible digital quality television service at the lowest cost possible. Unfortunately, our programming costs have risen nearly 25 percent since 2000, the last time we had an across-the-board increase. Unlike most cable TV services that have engaged in yearly rate hikes, we chose not to pass along those higher programming costs to our customers during much of that time.

For your convenience, to make a change to your programming selection at any time, just access your account online at DIRECTV.com. Or, use our automated phone system. When you call, select option 3 for "change programming."

Thanks again for your business. We look forward to continuing to provide you with award-winning service and a better value for your entertainment dollar than you'll find anywhere else.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXX
Executive Vice President
DIRECTV, Inc.

I don't know, but if you got the letter, I would think that you are.

I got the letter from directv stating the same thing...... If you commited to the one year total choice package to get the Directv free, then yes your package will still the same price til your one year runs out.....

I would hope either Dish or Direct would honor your present year agreement. That's why it is an agreement. I suppose if the agreement doesn't specifically say the price will remain the same they could have tried to raise it. Direct Tv did the right thing.

Since Dish in my opinion got slammed for absolutely no good reason on this site over their $2 increase, I will add that some Dish customers actually had a DECREASE in cost, and others are keeping the price the same for any agreements also. In fact you could have paid for a year in advance to keep the current price.

Finally (I know, Thank God he's almost done) While I have Dish and never have had Dirct Tv, it seems to me as businesses go, they both do a pretty good job of delivering their service and with customer relations. That said, Dish has not done the correct thing for Dishplayer owners in my opinion. (I do not own one)

Sorry I wasn't disrespecting anyone. It was a joke. Apparently the mods removed it, oh well.

Oh, it was just a pre april fools joke like the one Scott used in the Survivor Amazon forum. Nothing obscene or offensive, but it was confusing. Look at it there.

The price protection is only on The basic package, not premiums.

Does this include just TC or TC plus.

Yes the [you] feature was removed, see the admin area for the reason why. :)

After the increase, TC plus remained the same, ($39.99) and therefore any price protection need not apply. This price protection applies only to Total Choice.

So... This letter was sent to inform TC customers with
contracts that they are locked in until expiration?

Maybe the intent was to minimize impact to call centers.

So it is just for Total Choice? At least they are price freezing something, Dish is not for any current subscribers that had a contract to my knowledge.

From what I can tell Dish is. I only have one family I can go by, but they signed for a year to get the price on the 508, and their price is not going up. Perhaps there are other situations where Dish is raising it.
