It's free only for those subs that don't have Premier, if you already have it then you pay for it the Whole weekend....

I actually went through the online guide a couple of days ago to set some movies via remote booking. I was very disappointed by the options that weekend. I don't have any movie packages so I look forward to the Freeview weekends. I only found 8 movies that I had any interest in recording. I have recorded more movies on a weekend when only Starz or HBO have been free. I am not complaining about free programming, but my bubble was burst when I went through the guide for that many channels and only found 8.

The last time i recorded some movies on a free weekend preview they expired within a certain time period. I got the dreaded "Searching for Authorized content". Has anyone seen this before? Maybe it was a rare thing?

It happened to me the last time. 3 movies recorded and one gave me that message.

Yeah, but we still have to put up with all of the promotional windows and messages that pop up, that are not normally there. Oh well, that's marketing.

The last time, which I believe was Starz, maybe Showtime, I had no problems and recorded between 6-8 movies. I have watched all and they were OK.
The time before, which was a double header weekend of HBO and I think Showtime, I had 2 or 3 movies that were searching for authorized content. That was also a weekend that I recorded about 8 movies.:nono2:

I noticed last night that Dexter season 1 and 2 are listed in the OnDemand screens. If I download them this weekend, do you think I can watch them over the next few weeks if I am not a showtime sub?

I doubt On Demand is included in the free weekend.

Should be for everyone.
The last "free weekend of Plus Extra" was supposed to be for "everyone" also, but all I got for free were the channels in the EXTRA package but NOT the channels in the PLUS package! (I have the FAMILY package)
I called in to ask why this is happening and was told it would be "escalated to the engineering dept." since FAMILY customers and PLUS customers were obviously who the promo was targeted at. When Sunday night rolled around, (4 days later) it was still the same old same old. But I did manage to record a bunch of cool shows from the "extra only" channels so what did I expect for nothing?
I actually like the PLAYBOY TV promo they are running this same weekend. 4 hours of the Playboy channel for $0.25. That's right TWO BITS for 4 hours. Now THAT's my kind of PPV deal!! :D

FWIW, according to what I have seen to be true, the Family customers will not see most of the free preview channels not in the package due to the whole reason the family package is meant to exist, to keep the channels family-oriented. The Family package is meant for family viewing, NOT necessarily to save money as some subscribers use it. Family viewing would mean not a lot of sports programming, due to too much violence in many of todays sports, and unless its Disney, or Noggin, or WAM, many other channels are not suitable for the whole family.

Forgive my newbie confusion.....I'm trying to see a couple of these during the 25 cent weekend, so I'm trying to follow the directions on the DirecTV website. I go to the website & pick a program on June 14th and hit Record.
It shows on my TV List, but on the website, it never says anything about "how do you want to pay?" like the directions suggest.
1) Am I doing something wrong?
2) Do I get asked that question AFTER I try to view it?
3) How do I know it'll only be 25 cents? (I'm not at all interested in paying the regular price!!!)
Thanks

You have to start watching them for about 15-30 seconds, then they will keep until you delete them

you have to watch 30 seconds of the actual "live" movie at say 10:00 ?
or just 30 seconds of the recording of it the next day say.
You have to start watching them for about 15-30 seconds, then they will keep until you delete them
I have not found that to be true. I have recorded movies during free previews and then started watching them weeks later with no problem.

So what is the truth to this matter?
I also have never had to watch a little of each show to keep them... I've watched months, even over a year later on movies recorded on my old DirecTiVo... Does this policy/situation change with the HD-DVRs?

No, unless something has changed since the last free preview (which we wouldn't know about yet anyhow), this is absolutely 100% not the case. I have always recorded movies on free preview weekends and watched them much later without an issue, as have many others have reported on these forums in the past.

When can we use DVR Scheduler to setup recordings on channels we do not ordinarily get?

You should be able to do it now. When you select a movie, you will get a message that reads something like "you are not subcribed to this channel, do you wish to record anyway"
I selected yes, hopefully it works right.

Do you do the 25 cent Playboy Anniversary special the same way?
Pick a program to record from 6/13 thru 6/15 and pay the 25 cents later somehow???

I do not get my locals from directv . I get them from my antenna. With LIN finally coming on board will I be able to compare OTA vs directv this weekend?

the only thing i can think of is say u start recording a movie 11:00pm sunday night and it ends 1:00am monday morning....if the freeview weekend ends at midnite then technically the last hour of the movie was not in the freeview causing that message to pop up....hey its a theory.

I've recorded free week-ends and never lost a movie, in fact, I still have some from the last one. You just have to make sure your movie doesn't overlap the beginning and ending of the free preview.
