Hey y'all.

OK. My laptop runs TVersity. Its connected to my gigabit router. Which connects wirelessly to my primary wireless router. I also have a La Fonera and WRT54G running DD-WRT. My HR20 is running behind the WRT54G, and therefore is also behing an SPI firewall. Right now, I have the Network Services ports forwarded from my primary router to the WRT54G, then from the WRT54G to the HR20 (I also have the HR20 setup as DMZ on the WRT45G).

My laptop runs TVersity on 41952. I opened those ports and passed them towards my receiver as well. I havent seen any changes yet.

That should be 49152, not 41952.

Also - if it is a new router you may need to enable multicasting and open the ports for UPnP and SSDP messages TCP 5000 and UDP 1900.

Are you sure? For my TVersity settings, it says IP Adress: (blank) and Port: 41952

Im trying to avoid UPNP at all costs. I'll forward those ports though and see what I get, thanks.

Unfortunately you can't avoid it or it won't work at all - just don't enable UPnP on the router (for management) as that seems to be causing havoc on some folks network.

OK. Ive got the ports forwarded from my primary router to the access point, and from the access point to the HR20.
I also have the HR20 setup as a DMZ from the Access Point.

Since you are running multiple routers, are they on separate networks? If so, routing might get a bit dicey. Most people use a single network with just one router (plus bridges and switches if needed).

As for the port, 49152 is recognized by my HR20 and HR21 but 41952 is not. There may be other ports recognized, but I don't know which ones they are.

It would be nice if Directv could supply some documentation on just how Media Share is supposed to work.

I usually have a pictoral aide but since I've changed the infrastructure alot its not up to date.

I have DSL (Contractor Services just brought cable into my neighborhood, I should have a Cable Modem by the end of the month, WOOHOO!). My DSL Modem bridges the public IP to a DLink DIR-625. Unfortunately where that was installed, without tearing up the house, I cant run a cable to it. (Its a really old house and a really long story). Which means aside of the 1 desktop in that office, everything connects wirelessly.
I have 4 (realistically only 2) laptops that connect to that router wirelessly.
1 Desktop connected Wired
1 Desktop connected Wirelessly.
These all get reserved DHCP addresses at ..5.

I also have a La Fonera, running DD-WRT, which connects to that DIR-625, and a WRT54G, running DD-WRT, that connects to that DIR-625.
These 2 routers have a WAN address on the same ..5.

The La Fonera passes ..1. to its LAN
The WRT54G passes ..10. to its LAN.

Behind the La Fonera is a DGL-4300 (gigabit router). Thats in my lab. It passes ..9.
Behind the WRT54G is my HR20-700, and a Dell GX1 with Windows Server 2k3 and I forgot the password. (Its been about a year).

Behind the DGL-4300 is My laptop (wired if I am transferring files for gigabit speed using Cat6, otherwise wireless), My desktop, and my 'media server'.

The HR20 used to sit behind the DGL-4300 as well, and it picked up on my TVersity server running from the laptop. Then I moved it so now its in front of the DGL-4300, behind the WRT54G.

The Point
Ive forwarded all (appearant) necessary ports to the WRT54G, and on the WRT54G, Ive forwarded the ports to the HR20, as well as set the HR20 as a DMZ.

On the DGL-4300, Ive forwarded the port listed in TVersity (which is in fact 41952, because I just copied and pasted it from there) to my laptop.

The Big Picture
Currently, I don't see the media share menu item (Photos, Music, & More), and Network Svc's continuously fails. (Thought it could be a false positive, however I have not seen a fortune today either).

As for the port, 49152 is recognized by my HR20 and HR21 but 41952 is not. There may be other ports recognized, but I don't know which ones they are.
I dont know either, haha.

Hell Yeaz

No Fortunes for me!

And no traffic on the router that indicates the HR20 is trying to get out either. :(

Ive set the HR20 to be DMZ'd from the WRT54G, and the WRT54G to be DMZ'd from the DIR-625. Which basically means any traffic going to the DIR-625 (Where the internet is at), is forwarded to the WRT54G, and thats forwarded to the HR20.

Ive also disabled the SPI firewall on the WRT54G.

On a completely seperate note, Ive disabled the SPI Firewall on the La Fonera (Where the DGL-4300 is), and have DMZ'd the DGL-4300.
On the DGL-4300 I DMZ'd my laptop. So any traffic passed to the La Fonera is passed to DGL-4300, and from there is passed to my laptop.

Still no media sharing.

Your network is so unnecessarily complex, I just don't even have the words...

You may be right, but it works excellent, and it didn't cost me a couple hundred dollars to get setup, AND the equipment is stable.

Oh, and my webserver runs behind my DGL-4300, so I know that my port-forwarding isnt an issue.
