Hiding the 721 / 921

Since the 721 HD / fan is so noisy and the silver case doesn't fit in with my other black components I have hidden it behnd closet doors due to the WAF.

I also plan to do the same with the 921 when it arrives.

Instead of proudly displaying it, do you also find yourself having to hide the latest technology nowadays ?

i have all my audio and dish equipment in a closet by my family room. i have small fans in the closet that blow across my 721 and receivers. my 4000s are in the closet and i run them up to my bedrooms. i really like this set up.

If you enclose your PVR, I'd make sure there is still good air circulation. Heat is the enemy, and will kill your unit faster than anything else.

I don't mind the silver finish. It's actually making a come back. What I do mind is the crappy finish that is comming back. My philips DVD player is great. Nice brushed real metal face. I don't care for the cheap platic metal look however.

If you think the 721 is noisy, you should try the JVC DVHS. I just upgraded to a 721 and am quite pleased with the drop in decibles. :)

I hate the grey painted plastic that is making a comeback. I couldn't wait to ditch it from it's last go around in the 80's.

If I have a choice, I choose a black finish. Unfoortunately SO many manufacturers are removing it as an option.

You can thank Sony and their Wega TVs for the trend. It seems that since they took off in popularity in the late 90's, the silver finish has been coming back. Sigh. Oh well, 2010 is only 7 years away when they decide that people are bored with grey and go back to black again.....

Yeah, I can thank Sony for the fact that they no longer carry the black speaker stand for the black surround sound setup they sold me less than a year ago! They still sell the black setup (as well as silver) -- but the stands now only come in silver. Bah!

I would have bought a 721 long ago if it were not for the silver finish. All my components are black and I wouldn't have it any other way. For me, looks are as important as performance and capabilities. I intend to wait for the 522, which will be in black according to the preview photos.
