I am new to D* (about 3-4 weeks) and have had about 3-4 instances between both receivers where we were watching a show or recording a show and they rebooted in the middle of it?

Is this common? Is it getting some kind of update? Is there anyway to prevent this from happening when I am watching/recording?:confused:

This is not normal. The only time I have had it happen is when the power goes out.

Nothing in the house flickered? The Plasma hooked into the same USP did not go out or flicker??? Interesting?

Likely causes of random resets include ....
* AC power glitches (good to see you're using UPS's)
* Overheating (are the DVRs installed in an enclosed cabinet?)
* Hard drive problems

Two different receivers rebooting at the same time would indicate a problem in your system common to both. LNB, multi-switch(if used), ground problem, alignment, cables; basically anything shared by both. Do they share a phone line? Not sure if it could cause it, just trying to think of some overlooked causes.

actually the likelyhood of two receivers resetting themselves is slim to none but not impossable, A receiver resetting itself is linked to power outages. If you ever have a power outage in your home while the receiver is saving data(which, since it is a DVR, it does constantly) there is a good chance, the data it was in the process of saving could get courrupted, now that it has bad data on the hard drive it is resetting itself in an effort to correct this problem, if it fails in the attempt it will try agian. The more it does this the harder it is on the machine and eventually you could end up loosing all the saved files you have on there, best things to try: first; the power cord is detachable from the back of the HD DVR's remove it and reinsert it (dont worry about keeping it out for any period of time that comes later), second;make sure the outlet in your home is not a GFCI outlet (one room is tripped the other is off) if so you DO NOT want a HD DVR plugged into that outlet, find a new one, Third;if you use a surg protector try bypassing it for a day or so if that does it get a new one, and Finally: just try forcing it to reset by unplugging it for 30 secs you might do this durring other steps but try it agian maybe even a few times, if all of this fails then best thing to do is to get all of your rec's off of it and do a reformat(reset via red button wait for hello scren and almost there then screen goes black as soon as it turns black press rec and down arrow on the front of the reciver [not the remote]and hold them for about 10 secs then the rec light should come on and stay on for 30 secs to 1 min, after that check your "my playlist" to see if it is totally empty if so the reformat went through) if it continues your hard drive is damaged and the only fix is a new box.

P.S. I work for the Protection Plan dep believe me when I say this stuff works, it may seem rediculus but if you do it, and do it in the order I showed you, it should( I repeat SHOULD) fix it if not then I would suggest getting the Pretection Plan, if you dont have it already, and call up D* explain very calmly and clearly the steps you have taken in the order you took them and they can get you a new receiver under the plan, if that rep will not Do it then simply ask for a supervisor, tell them your story one more time and get something going.

P.S.S. If anyone needs forther assistance I am more than eager to help. That is the only thing I am really good at in this word so shoot me an e-mail. I am diggy down to do the dirty
