View Full Version : Autobill Pay Credit Card Info Update Notice
Don't get a Late Fee. I received a blue and yellow reminder card in the mail that my credit card info is about to expire. It arrived 7 days prior to my next payment, which will be the last one which can be charged with the current info. With summertime upon us and many being away from home, you could possibly miss the notice on updating your CC info in the blizzard of junk mail which awaits your return.
I did not receive an e-mail notification, which would have been a good idea. It would also be a good idea to print the web page and date showing the updated info or record the ID # and telecon date of any CSR who does this by telephone for your records.

Since DirecTV is emphasizing cost cutting by suggesting online statements and autopay, I'm surprised they'd spend the postage on a card and not an email. It also surprises me that the "warning" card appeared so close to the date of your next payment. What if you were on vacation and didn't get it until it was too late?

One reason to send a physical card is so that they have proof of delivery. Most courts look at it that as long as the address they have on file is correct and they mailed you a notice then that is proof of delivery. The reasoning is that they assume if the postal service fails then society as whole could not function. (Actual words from a judge.)
As for the timing of the notice, the OP noted that it was received 7 days before the last time a payment would be successful. After that payment the credit card info would be expired.

Just did mine. Thanks for the reminder.
We pay so many things with our Visa card (points, points, points!) that a couple of months before our new cards were due to be issued, we went through our online monthly statements for the last year and noted every bill that got paid that way. On our statements it also includes phone numbers which came in handy. When our cards came with the new expiration date, we just went down the list and changed the expiration date. Most were able to be updated on the merchant's website and we had to call a few.

As The Merg noted, this came before the last payment that would be successful with the old card data, so he/she still would have had about a month to address the situation.

I do the same thing. I pay many things directly with my Blue card, so when it expires or changes, I update all my payors.

An interesting note on the credit card, my card on file is irrelevant as I refuse to use autopay and my payments are transferred from my checking. The card expired in 98 and the issue never came up until a couple years ago when I updated other personal info and it wouldn't let me finish until I updated the card. The card was closed years ago but I just gave a current expiration date and everything was fine. Now that date has passed and when I log in it tells me my card has expired but I can do everything else.

Come one!!!! a lot of people doesnt even know how to use internet, and you ask to get a email with the info, i have been telling my sups to pass the info about sending both, email and paper, lets see what happens
Of course. But the marginal cost to DirecTV of also sending a back up e-mail is practically zero, and if nothing else, it's an additional reminder to internet users.

I hate to tell you, but society as a whole is not functioning, nor is the USPS - since my bills do not seem to get to some of my clients . . .
