View Full Version : R15 - Guided Setup after every power outage?

I have an R15-300 running 0x1208.

Every time the power goes out - like a flicker during a thunderstorm, or someone turns off the power strip, when I turn the unit back on, it forces me to go through a complete guided setup, enter zip code, choose a satellite dish, the whole nine yards. It also loses the Program Guide, and any To Do list items.

I live in TX, where thunderstorms and brief power interruptions are frequent. I've had an R15 for years and don't remember this happening until recently (Guide loss, yes; having to program the receiver again, no).

Is this a result of a recent software change, or is there something wrong with my unit. Surely it shouldn't be clearing every piece of information just because the power goes off....

Thanks.

No, it should not be doing that. I would call and arrange for a replacement. I would also get a UPS and run the DVR from the UPS to prevent (or at least reduce) the number of actual power interruptions.

My -500 started that same thing today after a E. Texas power blink but will not get past the Advanced Program Guide Data screen. Just sits there @ 0%. Tuners show ok which tells me that signal is there.

Mine did that, but I shut the power strip off and when it came back on, it was on channel 114. I just changed channels and it was ok...EXCEPT each time power goes out, I lose all programming. Or do I only lose that until (12 hours later) the programming loads again?

Pretty poor: my area (western NC) can get 3-5 outages in a week.

The R15 stores configuration information both on the HDD and in non-volatile RAM. It's possible that the non-volatile RAM on your unit isn't anymore and it is being corrupted by a power failure. The unit probably has a CRC check on it's memory which fails thus causing you to enter everything each time.

I would suggest a replacement, since this is definitely NOT the way the R15 normally operates after a power failure.
