Hi all....

First off...thanks so much for all of the great knowledge over the years. Although basically no posts, that is all because you all have usually answered any questions I have, and, unfortunately, I don't have a lot of knowledge to return...but hopefully I will have more!

My question is this, when I moved into my home, it was already ran with coax to all rooms. When I switched to DirecTV, the installer indicated that I could not use that cable an he would have to run cable. He did, and everything has been fine.

However, all of those were on the first floor. I now would like to be able to get an additional receiver for a room upstairs.

So, what do you all think? Possible? Could I just use the existing cable somehow or am I going to have to figure out some way to get coax up there?

Sorry if this is somewhere. I searched, but didn't find. If you all know, please just point me in that direction.

Again, thanks for the help!

You will need a coax from the dish to the new receiver location. That would almost certainly be run on the outside of the structure, then run into the applicable room through the wall.

If you order the additional receiver from DirecTV, it should include installation (including the wiring). If you purchase one from a retailer, you will probably have to run the wire yourself or pay to have it run.

There is a good chance your existing wire is ok.

If you can find a section of the old cable read the type printed on the side. The standard for DTV is RG6. Older, smaller cable (RG59) was used by cable companies and antenna installers. It can work for SD service in short runs OR to help pull other cable through walls.

Much depends on what type service you want to have. You can extend one receiver to many other TVs using the existing cable.

Go for it.

Thank you all for your help.

I will check out the existing wiring to see if it is RG6.

Either way, I didn't even think about using existing to help fish...THANKS!!!!
