I just acquired an Olevia 32" with a QAM tuner in it, and have it hooked up to the R15 in the basement, does anybody know if I can use the QAM tuner to pick up OTA HD while still running the cable through the set-top box?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is in the wrong area - newbie here.

Won't work through the R-15 or any other DTV receiver. I tried same thing with an HR20 because I wanted to be able to pick up my locals on the receiver guide and record them (since locals will probably never be available here). No luck from this end.

yes you can as it is a different input on your tv, but if you are asking if you can use the tuner on you tv to see those channels and record them on your R15 no that is not possible

However, the QAM tuner is cable only. It doesn't do OTA. But, your TV can do OTA HD via its ATSC tuner. Just connect the antenna and R15 separately.

I have to play the idiot card on myself, it's not the R15, it's my non-DVR R10 in that room - my apologies.

R10 was the last TiVo DVR, what do you have? Irregardless a QAM tuner is cable not OTA.:) :) :)

1. With your cable you can plug it into the TV's jack. On my Sony I told it to set up digital and using the QAM tuner it pulled in my locals. I can now switch inputs (w/ remote) and watch locals in HD without paying cable company extra $.

2. Sony also has an ATSC tuner built in so I could plug in an antenna into the same jack and get OTA HD via the ATSC tuner. Only problem with this is that I CAN"T GET A SIGNAL no matter how much the local networks try to suggest I can with an antenna. So for me this option will not work.

3. Due to the fact that #2 won't work I can't plug an antenna into my HR20 because of no signal.

4. As a result if I want to watch my locals in HD (or any NBC/CBS in HD) I have to watch without that aid of my D* DVR.

Luckily I have been given SD DNS for all networks. I have been given ABC and FOX HD DNS.

On the down side my local NBC WTOV-9 Wheeling, WV/Steubenville, OH & CBS WTRF-7 Wheeling, WV REFUSE to give waivers for the HD DNS. For that matter I can't even talk to a real person unless I lie about my reason for calling. IF I say I'm calling about HD DNS waivers they transfer me to some crap voicemail telling me that it's D*'s problem because they want to be on D* and until then all I can do is call D* and ask them to submit a waiver request which WTOV and WTRF have no intention of granting.

THANKS A LOT FCC.
