Dish Pro REQUIRES RG 6 Cable, RG 59 can not handle the wid signal needed for a Dish Pro setup.

So no old Cable wire will not work. (On a standard Legacy LNB it MIGHT work depending on the quality and age of cable, but I always say do right the first time and go with RG 6)

I though cable used RG 6. They used my old cable wiring and it works fine. I have four receivers on one dish.

"It Depends" - some used RG59, and some used RG6...

I've got some RG11 between my house and the cable outlet.

Rg59 should work for Dishpro, but its not recommended. No way would I even recommend installing a system using Rg59 unless I had no other choice since a home was pre-wired.

More than likely, there is probably a splitter somewhere in the line between the Dish and the Tv and thats the reason why you can't get a signal.

When I was a dealer I had a perspective sub insist I use the existing cable with a SW64. It was cheap rg59. I told him he would need to sign a paper that if it didnt work I would be paid for my time, the house was over 20 years and the cable a mess.

He refused later I heard he had someone else try and it was so flakey the guy got charged back. Stuff like that is why I am no longer a dealer.

Do it right the foirst time or dont bother at all.

My house was build about 5 years ago. When they installed my Dish unit they used the existing cable wiring. I have a Dish 508pvr and have not had any problems. Of course it could come back to bite me if I add additional receivers. How do you check to see what kind of wiring you have in your house? The electrition that wired the house put it in and I never saw the wire. All we have now are plates in the walls to plug cable into.

Just unscrew the plate from the wall, pull some of the cable slack out of the box/wall, and look for any printed information on the cable. If that doesn't work, and you have lots of slack to work with, and you're feeling bold, cut the cable back a little, strip some insulation, and reattach the cable to the receptacle in the plate. Take the piece you cut out. Get an accurate measurement of the diameter of the center conductor using calipers. Post the information here, and someone (with more knowledge than mine) will be able to tell you whether it is RG6 or RG59.

RG59 was used by some cable companies/wiring contractors. Even in the 90's. Mostly because for analog cable is really didn't matter. It was also extremely common for people who did the DIY install and were too cheap to spend the extra 3 cents a foot on RG-6 at the Radio Shack.

These days the cable company will rip out the any RG59 it finds and put in RG-6 Tri-Shield. They are also more likely to do RG11 drops from the pole to the house is there is any distance involved.
