2 days ago, i just receieved a REFURBed hr21 to replace my hr20 that completely died during a power outage. What was odd also was that during the initial setup of the hr21 receiver, the downloads were always restarting, getting to a different point every time and starting from the beginning. it did this probably 6 or 7 times during the download. i have done a signal test on all sattelites and transponders and all are at or above 87 (most if not all are in the 90's). The temp is running at 113 so it doesnt seem to be a temperature issue. They have sent a service guy out for NEXT THURSDAY (!?!?) to check my setup, i dont think he will find anything since my other 2 tv's and dvr's are running just fine. this is the 4th refurb unit i have received from directv with NO luck. the last time i had a tivo HD dvr go out and after 3 bad refurbs they just sent me a hr20 at no cost. im starting to think that i have decended into refurb hell....any suggestions from you guys out there on how (or if) this is a solvable problem?? thanks...

How "randomly" do you see the "searching for SAT2 ..." message?
Does it change to "SAT1" if you swap the two satellite input cables?
Have you tried swapping/replacing your B-Band Converter (BBC) modules?
Do your other Receivers have the same problem?

It would also help to know your satellite signal readings. Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples:

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)
[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]

[QUOTE=litzdog911;1644197]How "randomly" do you see the "searching for SAT2 ..." message?

the signal seems to die about every 20min-1hr of operation after a reboot...

Does it change to "SAT1" if you swap the two satellite input cables?

no, it is always sat 2. even after swapping...

Have you tried swapping/replacing your B-Band Converter (BBC) modules?
yes

Do your other Receivers have the same problem?
NO

i tried to input my readings, however, i keep losing my signal on tuner 2 and all readings go to 0 on all transponders. for tuner 1, all readings were in the 90's and tuner 2 all readings were in the 90's until they unexplicably drop to 0. oh, and its a beautiful day here.....

any other info you need? just lemme know

Have you tried a fresh reboot and force a new download of the latest software its possible with all the restarts when you first fired it up the software became corrupt.

Well, you've pretty much nailed it down to a defective HR21. I doubt that it's a software problem.
