I was browsing the video selections on my XBOX 360 today and picked a title and it started playing within 4-5 seconds after buffering. I am wondering why the DOD feature on the HR2X's don't do the same? Obviously microsoft has been able to do it so I am curious why not with DOD??

Assuming we're to comparing apples to apples (ie same encoding, comparable bitrates, etc.), DIRECTV might be trying to be slightly more conservative ensuring a smooth playback by buffering a bit longer.
As DIRECTV continues to refine the service, I'm sure we'll see improvements.
Cheers,
Tom

I guess I would like to see a true "On Demand" service since it obviously is possible as others are doing it. I have a 10 Mbps connection and it sure seems to take a long time to D/L SD shows and a very long time fro HD. Does D* have their servers fully online or gradually rolling them out and ramping up their U/L speeds?

Tom and others.
Question for all of you, since Microsoft and Direct TV both use limelight for there DOD libarys. Who says that the software does not go directly to Limelight for video? Who says Microsoft and Direct TV are running there own servers?
I have never seen anything from both providers that they use there own servers.

Early on with DoD I traced back the IP address that DirecTV was delivering content from and it was a hosting company. I can't recall their name...they were located in Arizona or New Mexico I believe.
