View Full Version : Signal loss on 508 recordings
I am seeing more problems with my 508. I am getting a lot of signal loss screens in my recordings the last couple of days. I get them if I record, or just pause the show for about 10 minutes and start it back up. I am also seeing it in recordings that are a couple of weeks old that were fine before, now when you watch them, you get that stupid signal lost screen.
Anyone else having this problem or an idea what to do?
TIA
I have been getting the acquiring signal screen alot the last week. I've called Dish several times and the last time the adv. tech put me on hold and said he was told the engineering department said they knew of a provider problem with the Detroit locals. He couldn't be any more specific, but agreed it was not my system. My sister lives forty miles from me is having exactly the same troubles. I have had this problem off and on since Detroit went on the spotbeam. It is starting to drive me crazy, a fairly short trip or so I'm told by friends.

I've been having the same problems with my 501-- loss of signal error message every 30 seconds or so, skipping ahead. I've called Dish Customer Support twice, been told by the CSR #1 that the problem was in my connection of the receiver to my system (it wasn't), and that the problem might be the receiver, a replacement for a fried hard drive that I received 2 weeks ago. Anyone have similar trouble with their 501? This is making me seriously consider DirecTivo, or returning to digital cable.
Same problem here with my new 508,I may sell thios piece of crap
Have you reset your receivers either the power button or smart card reset? What channels are you having problems with, all, locals, only even or odd transponders? What has your weather been like, heavy rain? Is your signal strength constant or is it fluctuating in the point dish/signal screen? People will help you in these forums but you need to give more information than just a complaint.

Your tuner is going bad, time to RA it. When you get your replacement refurbish unit then I would sell it because the same problem may happen over and over, although some people say they never have problems with these receivers.
Ok, a little more info on my 508.
I just switched over from a 301 a couple weeks ago.I had no problems at all with the 301,I just wanted the pvr features.
The receiver worked flawlessly for about a week then I started getting satellite signal loss screen every so often, maybe once every 10 min.
I checked all the normal stuff, switch test, signal strength(which is great on both birds).
I called dish and after being transfered around the tech tells meits possibly my lnbs.
Meanwhile the receiver in my other room is working flawlessly.
The signal loss screen eventually went away after a reset.
Now Im noticing "parts of this recorded program have been lost due to signal loss"in my recordings now.
Does everyone who uses a 508 have to do power button resets all the time to keep their units working bug free?

A power button reset will NOT solve your problem with the bad tuner that is resulting in your signal loss. Its not actually a problem to do with you having problems getting signal to the receiver, the tuner inside the receiver is not working correctly. The 301 working just fine on the same dish should prove that. I rarely see an lnbf go bad but the pvr units go bad constantly.
Ok ,now its just pixelating every now and then.
Whats the process of getting a new 508?
Call dish and convince them its their receiver and not the rest of the equipment?
What is the easiest way to go about getting another?
Any chance of getting a good 508,one that will work witout messing up for a long period of time?
Thanks for any info!

Well I dont know if there is really a good chance of getting a good one if they all have this problem with them. What is wrong with Dish? Why dont they fix the problem instead of getting another faulty receiver that will just go bad again? You will have to RA it. I would sell the new one when you get it. Actually it wont be new it will be remanufactured so you will probably get even less out of it.

I believe most of the 501/508 signal loss problems are related to something in the reciever front end that is sensitive to moisture. Either a poor job cleaning the PCB in production, or an improperly passified chip.
