is there a way to sort the guide by ascending or descending order?
The Chan up / Down button changes channels opposite the order the guide is showing them:mad:

You mean sort the channels alphabetically? No.

Chan up/down does function as you describe, but once you get used to it it's fine.

well, no I mean reversing the order numerically. My old dish network dvr receiver had that option. I guess it's not possible

Actually, after all the shuffling over the last year or two, DirecTV has grouped similar channels together to make guide surfing easier. And there are also pre-defined categories which now default to requiring a second press of the GUIDE button to see (unless you change this "display" option in the setup menu). If you have a favorites list defined and active, for example, you can choose the NEWS category and you will only see news channels that are in your current favorites list!

I think the present version of the DirecTV "advanced program guide" is pretty good. DirecTV's current user interface updates are designed to make the user experience identical on every DirecTV receiver. To simplify this, they have taken options used and preferred by many customers and employed them. But some of the fancy options that individual manufacturers used to employ on their branded receivers have been eliminated.

Legacy DirecTV receivers I've had on my account allowed all kinds of guide sorting (alphabetical, numerical, whatever) and seriously, I never used the features. You could even display a "LOGO" version of the guide which just gave the channel logos! One receiver I had would jump to a channel if you knew it's abbreviation. For example you pressed a "search" key on the remote and then entered something like "TBS" using the numeric keys and the guide would jump to...TBS!
