And so it begins...
Just days out of the gate and Firefox 3.0 has been hit with a code exectution vulnerablity rated a high severity risk by TippingPoint’s Zero Day Initiative.
Firefox has reached the user base level that writing code to attack the browser is viable for those malcontents who seem to have nothing better to do.
Statistics compiled over the last year by independent companies seem to indicate that at the very least, Firefox has proven just as susceptible to attacks as Internet Explorer. At the end of 2007, Firefox had more unpatched known vulnerabilities than did Internet Explorer.
That being said, I expect that Firefox will get a patch out quickly for this problem and as I am running both Firefox 3.0 AND Internet Explorer 8 Beta on the same test bed, I can say that I am impressed by the sheer speed of the Firefox 3.0 Browser. IE8 Beta isn't nearly as fast although it has some interesting changes that make it worthwhile as well. Since it is still in Beta, I suspect its speed will improve.
My suspicions are that I will probably end up running both Firefox 3.0 and Internet Explorer 8 on my working desktops and when the IE beta is complete.
