Hi Chuck and welcome to DBSTalk! :hi:

Unfortunately you won't get that kind of information during a Charlie Chat. The Chats are basically a marketing tool for Dish to inform current customers about what sort of programming and features are available now and in the future. Usually the technical chat will cover issues with equipment.

The talk tonight about HD was probably a way for Dish to unload their current stock of Dish 6000 receivers and modules being that the receiver has been discontinued.

Welcome to the world of satellite tv - Dish's answer to the "continuously upgrade your computer software treadmill" that Microsoft was so adept at pioneering. I can't help but chuckle when I read all these posts that say I laid out a thousand bucks in equipment and then pay over $100 monthly just to watch tv. It's a shame the network programming is so mediocre, that I find it harder and harder to justify that kind of expense. Don't get me wrong - I'm in the same trap having bought two expensive JVC DVHS satellite receivers to pay for the right to watch poor quality shows with untold numbers of commercials. True I could get PVRs to eliminate the commercials, but would the programming quality improve to the point that the additional economic outlay is justified? If you could quit tv cold turkey, you just might realize it wasn't worth all the trouble and expense. Take the money and treat yourself to a nice vacation!

Chuck, sorry your questions were not answered last night as Chris mentioned the Charlie chat is more a promotional tool then a help show.

As one of the 721 testers I can tell you that the testing is going very well and hopefully the new L1.10 code is made available to all in the not to distant future. The 721 team is doing an excellent job with the software.

As for Charlie talking about HD last night, well in all honesty he had to. ESPN is indeed coming at the end of the month, because of the contracts in place no company is allowed to announce that they are carrying ESPN-HD yet, so they gave a lesson on how to get HD last night without saying ESPN-HD is coming.

I know to the folks out there who do not own HDTV's or equipment what Charlie said last night did not make much sense, however for those with HDTV's last nights HD Confidence is the boost for HD that they have been waiting for.

Welcome to DBSTalk! Hope to see you around more! :hi:

Say what you want, it is very smart for Dish to be or at least try to be a leader in carrying HD programming. When HD becomes common place (and it will) cable could have quite an advantage over DSS if DSS doesn't keep up. If they actually beat cable and carry your locals or at least the networks in HD they might get subscribers that they might not otherwise get, and once subcribed hopefully stay with DSS. It was the combination of lower price and better picture that got DBS to where it is now. But with Cable now going to digital you cannot always say DBS has a better picture, although often the networks are still analog on cable.

I agree, I am glad to see Dish go wild on HD. I am waiting for Home Shopping Channel in HD, then I guess we will know all know that HD has "made it" and Dish made the right decisions early on.

FWIW, I know it is sad but my wife would love to see all the before/after makeup/lotions infomercials, and gaudy green jewelry in HD!!!
