View Full Version : Hooking up 2nd receiver with one dish

Currently I have one DirectTV dish with a DualLNB. I have the two lines running out of it and they go into a DirectTIVO receiver. I use the dual tuner so both lines run into it. I am planning on hooking up a 2nd receiver though, a basic DirectTV receiver with just one line coming into it.

Here is my question, can I do this with the one satellite dish or do I need a 2nd satellite dish?

Before I joined DirectTV I used to be a Dish Subscriber and I know with them you could buy something called switches that could have several lines meaning several receivers off of on dish. If possible I want to figure this out myself. I know it means an additional cost but it is cheaper than having an installer come out.

Search for multiswitches, a 2x4 or 3x4 will allow you to run 3 tuners off one dish.

If you are using a round dish, any 4 way multiswitch will do the job. They are very inexpensive and do not require power to work. I use 3x4 multis all the time in case the customer want off air or wants to keep cable.

Where is a good place to order these switches from and information on how to hook them up?

Just to clarify, you can run up to 4 tuners with a 2X4 or 3X4 multi-switch. The second number is the number of outputs from a multi-switch. For example, I have a round dish with a dual-lnb, and a 2X6 multi-switch. From that I have two dual-tuner Ultimatetv units and two standard receivers thereby using all six outputs.

The multiswitch is the best choice but you can also find another dish that is really cheap and put that up although you will not receive the other feeds that you can get on the ParaTodos dish if that is what you are wanting to put up.

I'll sell you one. They retail for $59.00
I'll tell you where to send the money, and you tell me where to send it.
