Just writing in today with my current project wondering if anybody had experience with sony's repair center
First question are for the people with the 60gb PS3 system. Does the backwards compatibility work just like PS2 hardware
Second question is has anyone had to deal with the sony repair department? If so, about how long did it take to get your
unit repaired, and after getting your system back was is A: the same system just fixed or B: a refurbised console?

I've contacted sony about the matter concerning my PS3 60gb unit (I dont actually have it yet) from speaking with them
I have learned that an out of warranty repair would only run me about 150$

There is a copy of COD 4 trapped inside the unit, as the ps3 will not power on in any fashion.
You think I'll get that back???

All in all though after talking to sony its really not a bad deal considering i bought it broken on ebay from a positive seller
all of the warranty seals are in tact, and no sign of abuse can be seen. 200 bucks total for a ps360gb? heck ya

I don't have any experience with the Sony repair question. I do have a 80gb PS3 and it has played PS2 games without any issues. Although I think the 80gb version uses a software solution to emulate a PS2 machine and the 60gb version used a more expensive (from manufacturing cost standpoint) hardware solution for PS2 games, the end results are generally the same.

Sounds like a good deal if it all works out.
