What advice would anyone have in this situation?:
I have two hddvrs I was forced to hookup with flat-cables in my appt and the second tuner on both of those units (hr20s) will not work. The funny part about it is that tuner 2 in both rooms will work if I switch the cable over from tuner 1 in each case and also the cable from tuner 2 will work on tuner 1 - the tuners are not bad. Also the transponders show a signal (albeit weak) on every other transponder for the tuner 2. All of this having the four leads from the dish going into a Zinwell 6X8 multiswitch with no diplexers.

If you swap the cables and everything is fine, what does it matter?

In regards to your odd/even problem (every other number being a 0), thats usually a bad LNB, the techs gonna have to come back out.

check your LNB and possibly alignment. also flat cables can impede the signal from the dish.

ask for a single line lnb. that way you will have one line from the dish and you can use splitters. also one line to the back of each hddvr

I mean to say that the cables that are already in place are both good because I am able to get a signal through tuner 1 off of both. But my hddvrs will not recognize whichever of the good cables are plugged into the tuner 2.

I am also disinclined to think that it is an lnb because I can get all of my channels through tuner1 on both receivers.

I think I probably have an issue with how I have my multiswitch setup, but I can't call a tech out as some would suggest because Ironwood requires a solid line (no flat cables) before they will service me but I have to have flat cables.

Any more ideas now that I've clarified my situation?

Thanks, in advance.

My alignment is good because I do get a great signal on tuner 1, but I do recognize how flat cables can impede the signal. I just don't understand how if it is a cable problem for the cable going to tuner 2 how it could possibly work just fine for tuner 1. This is the case in both rooms.

Otherwise, I have hr20s that don't accept that don't accept swms as far as I know... Am I mistaken?

RF can be "funny". A cable that works fine on one tuner may not on another due to the overall impedance match [or mismatch].
HR20 will work fine with a SWM. [I've got two working with mine.]

you only have four cables coming out of the multiswitch? try to change the cables around there if not and you only need four total remove the multiswitch and barrel the cable together.

if you have an extra long piece of cable run it from the MS to recievers, if possible. this could eliminate a bad cable or tell you your MS is bad

Im not saying the LNB is the actual issue, im saying thats what DirecTV is going to tell you.
If you tell them every other number is a 0, they'll have you swap cables, then they'll set you up to have a tech come out.

Did you reset the receiver after you swapped the cables?

Did you reset the receiver after you swapped the cables?

An important (critical) requirement. Reset after every cable change if your problem is a non-working tuner 2.

If you have only two HDDVRs, why you would need a multiswitch. Is your dish SWM or AU-9? How many cables coming out of your dish? I'd say hook up straight lines to your dish, reset receiver and see how it works. :)
