$200 bucks renewal for fewer games?!? This sucks.
To whom do we complain? I guess nobody; I don't see that there's anything that can be done.
Big business screws the little guy again. These copyright interests and turf protection are anti-fan.

Yup, just remember they paid BILLIONS to keep the NFL Exclusive to DirecTV. That means YOU pay more too. :)

It's worth every penny.

So take your money somewhere else.... You don't have to watch Football.
It's the fewer games that really peeves me! For that amount I shouldn't be subjected to overtime delays and mid-game cutaways.
I really don't mind the money. Compared to the costs of going to a game, I'd rather do the ST package.

Like Curtis and Dear Leader :D says its worth every penny, regardless of the new policy or the new price for it.

This I found interesting from the CFO of Directv:
One programming differentiator for DirecTV is its NFL Sunday Ticket offering, for which it charges subscribers $140 to $200 per season. Its new five-year deal with the National Football League is exclusive to DirecTV with respect to satellite programming for five years and with respect to cable-TV competition for three years. The added revenue from the NFL package will "significantly outperform cash obligations" to the NFL in every year of the agreement.
"We will not lose money on a cash basis" under the deal, Mr. Palkovic said.
(Part of a story link I posted in the Directv Forum)
glad I'm not a big nfl fan. $200 is a good bit, but in relation to NBA full court, which is $160, doesn't seem too bad. Well, NBA you get to watch 82 games of your favorite team, and other games 7 days a week so NBA price, to me, provides a goot bit for the $ you are paying.

How is it fewer games when you are still going to be able to see every game every weekend (except of course games blackedout because of local blackout rules. Instead of watching a game in the 700's, you just might have to watch it at like channel 2 or 5. Still seems like the best sports package around

Now if only it was broadcast in 1080i it would be worth the $200

1. If the 1PM games runs late, you don't get to see the beginning of the 4PM game on your local station or ST.
2. If the local station cuts away from the 1PM game because the hometown team is coming on at 4PM, you can't watch the end of the game on ST. (Same thing appiles if the local station cuts away from a blowout game.)
3. Not everybody has locals on their satellite - and I suspect for at least a few of these rabbit ears are not a viable option.
Overall, though, ST is still a good package and $199 isn't a bad price for it. I think I'll order it this afternoon ... oh that's right, i have Dish. :crying:
I will never understand the appeal of NFLST. I live in an area w/o one "local" team and between Fox, CBS, ABC and ESPN, I get 5 of the 16 games (max, most weekends have less than 16 games) played for FREE, with a good mix of teams throughout the season.
All NFLST gets you is more games at the same times. You can't watch but just one at a time anyway.
I agree with you, Sam. With only two time slots for the football games; the Ticket is a big waste of money.
Extra Innings is a lot easier to watch, since there are 4 time windows (and the Dbax moved every one of their home games up one half hour). What I do is start with the Eastern games, then catch the beginning of the Central games.
Then go back to the Eastern games to catch the endings. Then switch back to the end of the Central games. By now the Dbax and Pacific games are starting up. That makes for a full night of baseball, LoL

If I couldn't watch my favorite team, I'd say I would pay for it. I honestly figured the price would be around 250.00 this year.
The renewal price for current Sunday Ticket subscribers WILL NOT BE $199. IT WILL BE $179. The $199 figure is for current non Sunday Ticket subscribers who wish to buy Sunday Ticket for this season. They will pay $199 if they order the package by July 31st.
If you want to confirm this information you can simply call DirecTV Customer Service and speak with a CSR.

Was the early bird price last year $139.00 for the NFL ST?

The early bird price is not the same as the automatic renewal price. Auto-renewal pertains to those who were NFLST subscribers in the previous season and it is always the lowest available rate.
The early bird rate applies to new NFLST subscribers who sign up before a specified date, usually July 31st. Last season, the auto-renewal rate was $139. I'm not certain what last years' early bird rate was but it may have been $159 since the early bird rate has usually been $20 more than the auto-renewal price.

At least more people are watching it to defray the cost versus... Cricket on DISH.

Well don't forget you would be paying more like $300 for your NFLST if it wasn't for the $600,000,000.00 generous subsidy brought to you by the friendly folks at Dish Network.
Enjoy

Well, I'll speak here for any NFL fan who lives outside the broadcast area of their favorite team.
For me, if I did not have NFL Sunday Ticket, I think that out of the 16 games last year, I'd have seen maximum 6 Chicago Bears games in Jacksonville, FL.
If you break it down, the auto-renewal price I paid ($139) for NFLST is a deal. If I had to go to a sports bar to watch a game, I'd have to buy a meal for both myself and my wife (she's a fan too)...bill there eqauals MINIMUM $15 for food, beverage...maybe up to $20 per week.
Who wants to spend that much?
With NFLST, I get to eat my own food, drink my own pop, and watch my favorite team for less than $9 dollars a week. And, I get to watch my team. In Jacksonville, I only got the Bears' nationally televised games (4 total...3 on MNF, and one on ESPN), and IIRC just one other game, vs. Atlanta. Otherwise, I'd be out of luck.
So, there's the appeal of NFLST. For NFL fans like me, the ability to watch my out-of-market team cheaply in the comfort of my own home.
Having the other games was nice too. No need to watch another beer commercial during timeouts. :D
