how to program the remote question

Gave a friend an older sd tivo. I have the white Direct tv remote and not the black peanut remote. I can not remember how to set up this remote to control his TV.

I tried switching the switch at the top to "TV," held down select and mute until the light flicked twice and entered the codes for JVC TV.

Is that correct? Do I need to hit "Enter," after i am done?

or am I just doing this wronf because it did not work.

yes thats correct, you do not have to press enter. do not rely on the TV ON & OFF keys to determine of the code works or not, test all keys.

JVC only has one remote code, which is (from memory) 10053.
