I know there has been some other posts about DHP and upgrading, but I'm looking for what some of you would do in my situation.

Ok, here's the scoop. Have a 6000 thats mine, but I also have a 501 and 301 on DHP when I first started with dish in 2001. (I should have just bought the stuff then, but I wasn't sure if I would like satellite) I was going to replace the 501 with the 921 and pick up a cheap 301 to replace the DHP 301.

Now with the 921 looking like September or later, I'm wondering if I should just wait another 6 months and 60 bucks of DHP fee, and stick to my original plan, or do you guys have any other ideas.

It's too bad the $199 508 deal isn't for DHP users. I just don't know if I want to fork out $300-$400 now, and then lord knows how much for the 921 in the fall.

Thanks!

First check with DISH to find out what you are paying for DHP you should be paying $5.00 to rent the equipment and $4.99 for duplication of programming on the second receiver. If you quit DHP you will save the $ 5.00 rental fee but the duplication fee would still apply if you have more than 1 receiver. You will also lose the inhome service plan that you get with DHP. This plan includes parts and labor the $1.99 extended warranty only covers replacement of parts not labor.

Boba, yes, for a basic receiver, it is $5/month. But the Dish PVR plan for AT150 is $10/month ($9 for AT100) in addition to mirroring fees. I'd rather pay the $1.99 month. I also thought all you had to do was pay shipping for a replacement with the extended warranty.

Like others have mentioned, if you are sure you will stick with satellite, you are better off buying the equipment. I wish I had, my PVR would have been payed off by now.

Angiodan I again say call DISH and get an explanation of your bill your answer dosen't make sense.

If I didn't have a PVR, yes it is only 5 bucks a month to rent equipment, plus mirroring charges. When you have a PVR on DHP, you pay 9 or 10 bucks. That explanation is written clearly on my bill.

Not sure how I can make my answer any clearer.

The clear advantage of having PVR with DHP is when that expensive receiver fails (hard drives WILL fail), DISH will replace it for FREE. It's all included in that $60 per year you pay. Remember that if you total up the cost of buying all the eqipment, with a PVR, the break even point is over 5 years.
I would much rather use the new technology on DISH's dime.

The 921 will be over a G-note.
I think the better new stuff is the 322 and 522 which allow for one receiver wired to two different room. The 522 model will allow for both TV to have all the PVR fuctions.

Please check your bill again, there is no additonal fee for PVR with DHP. You still only pay the $5/month DHP fee and the $4.99/month additional outlet fee.

The $4.99 / month outlet fee is the same no matter what plan you are on. Total savings for owning your equipment is $5 /month

In my opinion, DHP is well worth the money with the PVR since you saved a bundle of money upfront, and hard drives do fail.

In addition, your 6000 is covered under the DHP warantee, and if you buy a 921 in the future, it would be too!

My suggestion is wait for the 921 and then drop the 301 off your account, and keep the 508, 921 and 6000 along with the DHP.

Saving the Extra $5/ month, it would take you five years to make back the upfront cost of buying your own new 508.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there isn't one now, but there used to be one. I know that when I bought my Dish system with a 501 on DHP (10/2001) I was charged I think $5 more/month for the 501 as opposed to a 301. Now I believe you can upgrade for a $150 or similar fee to get the 501.
