View Full Version : Dell Discounters Dump XP Laptops
Both Buy.com (www.buy.com) and eCost.com (www.ecost.com) are drastically dropping prices
on Dell D600 laptops with recertified XP Pro OS to below the
mythical (mystical?) $400 price barrier.

Thanks for the links, but I can see why they are selling cheap.
They are "recertified" with small hard drives and only 512MB DDR.
Not very attractive deals, IMHO.

$399 is cheap for a laptop, no matter how you slice it. However, I received a Dell catalog yesterday - Vostro 1000, 1GB DDR2, 80 GB Hard Drive for the same price, upgradable to 2GB RAM and Dual Core for $65. Looks like buy.com has some work to do on that price.

Nice laptop except for the Vista OS. Does it include downgrade rights?

I don't know about rights, but I've got the CD's to get it done. ;)

The D600 is at least 4 if not 5 years old. The D610, D620, D630 and the E line to come out this year have replace it.
I have one and waiting on the E to get a replacement. They are good laptops provided you have a brand new battery. They tend to last a year or so.
But for 400 you can get something with a tad better processor. A memory upgrade would be nothing in any case.
