View Full Version : Dish Question
Are most of the Dish Network channels like Disney, Sci Fi, etc. in stereo sound? What surround mode do you usually put your reciever on? Thanks.

I think if you leave it im Mixed audio, it will give both stereo and pcm.
I am assuming you have a dolby receiver (501/508/6000) with optical out.

I use the optical out on the 6000 and my reciever auto switches betwen PCM and DD5.1 as the shows change.
If you don't have a receiver with optical output will you be getting stereo or mono? Thanks.

If you use the rca A/V jacks to connect to your Audio-Video receiver or stereo tv, all tv and the 32 Dish CD audio channels will be in stereo, the 19 Dish Audio audio channels are in mono. If you use the modulated coax cable to hook up to your tv and view satellite programing through channels 3 or 4 on your tv instead of auxiliary or video selections, then sound will be mono. If you want stereo sound use A/V rca jacks. For best video use S-Video if tv supports it, 2nd best is A/V rca jacks for video connection, modulated coax is last choice for video as well. Hope this helps.
I hear the weird noise out of the rear surrounds that kind or sounds like a underwater noise. I also hear the regular noises you would expect to hear. This seems to be how the talking is eliminated. I have the receiver on pro logic 2 but with other stereo sources it doesn't sound like that. Is this something with Dish Network? Does Direct TV also sound like this?
The Dolby chip has an "auto-balance" circuit that tries to keep stray sounds from "leaking" into the surround channels but it isn't perfect and digital artifacts from DBS can result in what you describe. Actually, there will be similar crosstalk on a variety of sources at intermittent times.
But if you have your system properly channel balanced for where you sit it really shouldn't be very noticeable. Is it possible that you have the gain of the surround channels set too high? Or that having balanced them for one listening position you in fact tend to sit closer to one or the other surround speakers?

Dolby Digital sounds great and all, but I wish something could be done about the inconsistent volume control going from quite when characters are conversing to deafening loud when something blows up and a lot of gunfire during an action sequence. When ever watching a DVD or DD5.1 movie on E* I always keep my receiver remote right near me. I've played around with volume settings and the night and loudness modes, and I got it to where it's the best for me, but still could be a bit better.
Thanks. I have it so I can only hear it if I put my ear up to one of the speakers now. Thanks again.
