I wrote to Dish regarding YES. Here's the response I received:

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your e-mail. We understand your frustration of not being able to see the sports you desire, but unfortunately, DISH Network will not be offering the YES Network this year. It was not made available to us at reasonable rates, either in your package or a la carte. DISH Network works hard to limit price increases and YES would have resulted in a significant price increase. While we are unable to discuss specific negotiations, we recognize the popularity of the sports teams that are carried by YES and have been in discussions with the provider in hopes of offering this network to our customers in the future.

As a current customer, you may also use our website to view your current or previous billing statements, add services, or make payments to your account. Please use the link https://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customercare/UserManagement/login.jsp to visit our Online Customer Support Center.

Your business is greatly appreciated and we thank you for allowing us to be of assistance to you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please refer to www.dishnetwork.com or reply to this email.

Sincerely,

Suzanne P.

It will be officially not offered until Dish can reach a deal. They cannot say yeah we think we will have it by the end of the month and the start of the baseball season even if they are working on it. If they fail in the negotiations they will have too many mad subs. By saying no we do not expect it then if they do reach a guild everyone will be happy.

So, all this really says is that they do not have it now, but does not say if they will reach a deal.

DISH will be the lone standout. In the NE, it will cost him subs, but only in the NY area. Anywhere else in the US, it will not even be a blipp on the churn radar.

Well guess what......I got so sick of cheap Charlie that on Sat 3-15-03 I took apart my dish 500 and 721...cancelled with dish.....
bought the Hdvr2 unit/Phase 3 antenna.......got 6 mos of total choice plus w/locals along with Hbo @ $31.99...tivo @ 4.99 and can now see the Yes Network and never been more happier. I gave E* time and they failed! So long Cheap Charlie!!!!!!!

Took me less than 30 min. to swap antennas and re-peak (using channel master 10071fd meter) and get a nice rock solid signal.
I gave E* as much time and was patient...but they gave up on me....

Too bad we do not have the inside info. It would be interesting to know how many subs in YES area Dish has, and how many DirecTV has. If the sub numbers are really low Dish may just write off the sports fans in the market. It would be interesting to know if DirecTV really picked up so many subs when they had YES and the cable company did not.

since fox sports and msg no longer carry the yankees, nets and devils. Don't you think that charlie owes a rebate to all those new york sports junkies?.(I'm positive the cost of msg dropped in half without the yankees to pay for any more)

I don't know how long I am willing to wait for dish to get YES. I already have given them a year and still nothing. It just seems to me that dish will never get YES.

How about Charlie get the Yes network as a favor for NY fans. He will eventually increase prices anyway. Dish Network will not be the satellite of choice in the NY/NJ area.

I have seen many Direct TV dishes go up in my neighborhood. My neighbors keep asking me why I still have Dish Network and not DTV. I tell them that I love Dish Network's service but if they do not get YES, I will have to sadly say goodbye to Dish Network. Especially now that Cablevision has Yes!

Can Dish Network afford to lose all those customers in the NY area? Does billionaire Charlie even care?

Add my name to the list of subs who cancelled over YES. I was on DHP, had a 501 and 301, and was quite pleased with Dish until they decided to play hardball with YES. I gave them a year to sort it out, but enough is enough. I've now got a Sony T-60 and B-65 and couldn't be happier. I get all my locals on one dish, too. As a Dish sub the only thing I really didn't enjoy was the fact that I would never know whether or not the channels I enjoy right now would be on in a month (during the year and a half I had dish, there were disputes with ESPN Classic, TNT, NESN, and other channels I didn't watch such as TV Polonia). That doesn't even count YES, Trio, or Oxygen, three channels Dish really should have, even though I don't give a hoot about what's on the later. One or even two channels is OK to argue over, but it's just unacceptable in my opinion to take a "it's my way or no way" attitude towards contracts.

I think a year was more than enough time to have gotten a deal done. I thought Charlie was just waiting for Cablevision to get it before they did, I guess I was wrong.

I am very disappointed with Dish Network. I guess the money Charlie saves by not having YES will just go to his pocket.

Millions of Yankee fans will have nothing to do with Dish Network!

The simple answer is E* does not want all it's customers to have to pay for YES. They want subscribers to pay for it if they want it. I agree and so does Cablevision. Yes is not on the lower tiers on Cablevision. It is only included with higher tiers.

If E* adds YES to AT50 as Yes insists E* would have to raise the price that they have gauranteed for the next couple of years.

I think E* will add YES but only in the AT100 and up packages if YES will agree to this. Yes probably will as they did with Cablevision.

Just curious, but isn't Turner South in the same category as YES Network? TS is only available in the Southeast, yet DISH decided to add that channel to the AT 100, and on a conus beam. FSW2 was finally added, yet it's only viewable in Southern California. I don't understand why they're having a problem adding YES if NY DMA subs who want the channel are willing to pay for it.

Good point Mike!

Thanks Scott! This is a great site. I'm glad I found it!
To take it one step further, for example, if YES was made available in the multi-sport package, at least the non NY sports telecasts could be viewed by people outside the NY DMA. (ie Mike and the Maddog, etc....) With TS, NOBODY qualifies for the channel unless they live in a qualifying area. Also, the FSW2 thing makes no sense to me. On DirecTV, it's treated like any other channel, yet DISH has it on spotbeam?? I don't get it!

Yes Mike does make a good point.

I'm beginning to think Charlie doesn't care about the NY/NJ subs.

Mike, great point, BUT I think it's because YES is asking for so much more money per sub than the other channels.

If you had those stats and they all balanced out, then I'd totally agree with you.

Has anyone heard anything lately about negotiations between YES and Dish? Are they close to a deal yet?

Haven't heard much lately. Which isn't always a bad thing.

Well I think if Charlie wants to increase subs in the NY/NJ area, he will have to have this channel available. If he never gets this channel I think he will lose more subs than he will gain.

I never said everyone!

Believe it or not there are many sports fans in NY/NJ Area. Charlie probably will gain some subs in this area but not as much as if he had this channel.

In my neighborhood there are much more DTV dishes than Dish Network dishes. This is just a little sample but I am sure it’s the same in the rest of the NY/NJ area.

Direct TV rules in the NY/NJ area! Especially because they have the Yes Network!

Many people in the NY/NJ region also take international and ethnic channels, some only carried exclusively on Dish Network.

I was just wondering, since baseball season is about to start, Is Dish going to carry YES this year?

Thanks,
