DISHPVR 501: Recording program after it started?

Clarification question: 

The manual says to record something that is in progress, rewind to the beginning of that program then hit Record.  I did that, and it read the right program, and asked when to stop it.  Do I then have to let it play that program back through from the start, or will it move the 'cached' program into 'recorded' by itself?

It will move the cache into the recorded event starting at the point you rewind back to. See the 501/508 User Guide Supplement (http://ekb.dbstalk.com/291#Recording) for more examples and explanations of other new features.

After you rewind, pause, hit record and make your selection for when to stop, it will start playing from where you paused. There is a LIVE button on your remote that you can hit to get back to the current program and it will record everything from where you hit pause.
