Is this normal on 721?

Hey,
I use my 721 to control and record directly to a VCR. Why the VCR and not the PVR? It's so I can archive my shows.

The problem I've encountered is that on some movies/shows there seems to be a strange copyguard effect.

Type 1: was scrambling the picture

Type 2: was more blatant, it first appeared as a maze like in a video game then tranformed into wipes/dissolves as the movie progressed.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The wipes and disolves sound like the 721's screensaver function, but I don't know why it would be happening unless the program was paused.

Thats the screen saver. There is a bug where it leaks into a show and eventually takes over the screen and freezes. I would call E for a replacement although a good work around you can try is recording to PVR. My first 721 didnt appear to let the screen saver take over in PVR recording mode. Then later archive your shows, you can even FF thru the commercial this way.
