When the terrestrial (over the air) networks convert to digital broadcasting next February, will it change satellite providers offerings?

I'm trying to determine if satellite providers will always be charging extra for HD programming or if they will become part of regular programming offerings once everyone is broadcasting in digital.

Thanks

The changeover in Feb. 2009 does not mean that OTA broadcasts will become HD, just digital. There's a difference.

Most of the providers have already started to change over for Feb 2009. They will be set to go when it happens, only people who will have problems will be those with OTA analog only.

As far as paying extra for LIL (Local in Local) channels. I don't see that changing just because of the digital transition. E* must pay so you will pay. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Many of the SD locals are already using digital feeds and have been for quite a while. The Sherman/Ada market does not have HD service but, one of the digital subchannels is downresed and offered in the sd local package.

At this point all SD locals are broadcasting digital (some repeater station, etc. are exceptions).
