The other day my HD channels 631-1 (Sports South) and 630-1 (Fox Sports South) disappeared from my favorites list. Being a regular reader here, I didn't panic, I knew they were going to be moved, but I forgot where. I had to search ALL channels to find that they had moved to 646-1 and 649-1.

But not every Directv subscriber comes here, or anywhere else for that matter, so I'm guessing a lot of people were calling to complain where their local RSN HD channels went to. Even more confusing is that regular SD 630 and 631 are still broadcasting.

Just a heads up, Directv. Next time be a little more considerate. On some of your channels it says in the banner "This channel will be moving to..."

Yeah, it does seem a bit odd that they did not warn viewers ahead of time. But weren't these on that list that were supposed to be moved around a few weeks back?? Still, they should have informed viewers.

For the last couple of weeks the new channel locations were listed in the grid on under the old channel number. For SUN/FSN (Fla) both sets of channels worked for a period of time.

It seems to me this is a perfect use for the underused messages function in CALLS & MESSAGES.

There should be a notification everytime a channel changes or a new feature is added, along with a pop-up stating that you have a new message.

Whoa, amazing a use for Calls & Messaages! I seem to recall that the TiVo Box had messages like this on it along with upcoming updates etcetera...but I am losing my mind lately, so perhaps I am making this up. ;)

A good suggestion....I have seen them post "this channel has now moved to..." in some cases in the past within the guide listing.

My wife still has a standalone series 2 Tivo that I don't believe she will ever let go. It controls a D11, and it actually pops up a screen any time DirecTV changes a channel listing. 19 times out of 20, its something extremely minor, but every now and then its something that affects us.

C'mon, DirecTV, don't let Tivo outclass you for notifying your own customers!

I have a D10 box...

Mine says "This channel will be moving to..." for both 631 and 632. According to what I'm reading right now, Sports South is moving to 649 and SUN is moving to 653.

I don't know about your RSN, but I know with FSN Bay Area, which also just switched channels, there was SOME sort of notification that a change was happening.

My dad (who doesn't visit these forums) knew of the change before I did (I hadn't seen the thread about RSNs changing channel numbers).

I'm not sure if it was DirecTV that had some sort of a message (in the banner, or the guide, or something) or if it was the RSN running an announcement that it would be on a new channel soon....

I haven't watched the RSN since hockey season ended, so I don't know how the information got relayed, but it did, somehow....

Yes, TiVo did it that way.

And yes, you're losing you're mind anyway.

You mean like they are doing right this second. ;)

I'm showing "This channel will be moving to xyz" on channels 621, 630, 631, 632 & 643

One other thing is that when Spike, for example, moved, my favorites list automatically deleted the old channel (325, I think) and added the new channel. It didn't happen this time, so I didn't even know what happened until I checked the guide and saw that 630-1 and 631-1 were missing, but the new channels weren't added. So, even putting up "This channel has moved to..." wouldn't be a help since the "old" channels were deleted from my favorites.

Why D* doesn't use the Mailbox in each of our IRDs for notices about new channels and channel changes is beyond me.

I used to get messages all of the time with my old R10 (Tivo) DVR, but I think I've only ever received 1 message on my HR20.

The general public must be totally clueless on most of the HR2x series features since many aren't in the manual and many have become 'active' within the past year or so. I would expect that only users of dbstalk really know what the heck is really going on with these HR2x series units.
